The Lion Fountain is reached when you descend from the High Place by the back route. Its an interesting carving and you can clearly see where the water was channeled down the rock face passing through the open mouth of the lion. Apparently the fountain was used as a drinking fountain but it could also have been a religious monument. It is located on the left as you descend towards the Garden Tomb, so keep you eyes peeled, we nearly missed it.
Carved into the sandstone is this large lion on the way to the High Place of Sacrifice. The water collected on the mountain slope and made it's way down the mountain to the cistern at the Garden Hall.
