Wadi al-Qamar: Simple but tasty

Simple and tasty

With only a handful dining options at Wadi Rum, we selected Wadi al-Qamar restaurant quite randomly. It is set in a small walled villa in Rum Village, with outdoor seating and nothing luxurious. Two friendly Egyptian expatriates run the place, one cooks and the other serves. The dishes are simple and tasty, and include salads, grills and rice plates.

Bedouin Tent in Wadi Rum: Coffee & tea, Bedouin style

Bedouins enjoying tea & coffee

Located within the protected area of Wadi Rum, this bedouin tent serves tea and Arabic coffee with dates. It is a perfect stop while trekking the desert landscape and is frequented by the many tourists along with local bedouins. When I visited on the 1st January 2011, the tent was located by the Khazali Siq (narrow passage) which leads to some Bedouin rock graffiti. Your guide will certainly bring you here, but by then, the tent may have moved elsewhere!

Local cooking in the Desert

The Bedouin Tales guy cooked up a storm on a little fire in the desert! We ate like kings! Seriously, they obviously dont take fresh things as its too hot so everything came out of a tin but it was just delicious!

We ate a tomato based dish with garlic it was so good!

Favorite Dish:
Where else can you sit on the sand and eat at your own pace?! Where else can you eat and look out at mile upon mile of sand?!

Chickens in Wadi Rum

Before we left Rum village for the desert safari in Wadi Rum we bought chickens for dinner. I will not tell you how the chicken feathers were taken off, but it was not by hand (at least the chickens were dead before).
In the evening the meal tasted very good!

Wadi Rum Entrance Ticket

If you have read my Wadi Rum Intro page, you know we ate on the house, but by other accounts the prices here are bit of a rip off, but then they do have the monopoly.

The evening we were there, it was the Managers birthday,There were lots of celebrations dancing & music. I dont know if this if the usual fayre for the tourists or if if it was a one off because of Ramis Birthday.

Favorite Dish: We ate, Rice, Pitta & Falafal..................No complaints

The 'A' Team!

We ate on the Wadi Rum, under the stars, with wine, dancing and music. Just under canvas, out in the middle of 'nowhere'.
Just as one would expect of the location of Lawrence of Arabia.

Not sure what we were eating but it was good. We were hungry after all that activity.
The wine was also good.

Favorite Dish: So long ago I forget ! I think it was 'Tika Chicken '
We were so hungry that we were grateful for food so far out in the desert.
