Not much of a danger here, but when I visited the Dead Sea in December 2010, there were countless annoying and persistent tiny flies everywhere. They attacked our food, entered our car if we left the window open for more than a minute, and basically drove us mad. They were irritating enough to make lounging outside rather uncomfortable. The area around the Dead Sea has a much warmer humid climate than the surrounding areas, with numerous farms, which is probably what allows these flies to thrive. This was not the case anywhere else I visited in Jordan. We were told it was "fly season" so this was likely an isolated event specific to this time of the year.
