Mukawire / Machaerus
King Herod of Israel built this place about 2,000 years ago. The site is itself is a pile of stones, however it is the place where John the Baptist was beheaded, and thus of significance. Perched on a hill top, you'll have to walk up. Ask the bus driver to wait for you, or else you will be left stranded with goats that may be grazing the slopes.
There is no entrance fee at the moment.
Tip: Buy the bus driver a coke, take his picture and make friends with him so that he'll wait. At the very least, he'll have you as passengers travelling back.
