My most lively memory is eating with Khaled in a local open air 'restaurant'. They let me bake my own fallafel. That was harder than I thought!Fallafel is locally known as food for the poor, but it's delicious, nutricious and vegetarian. Fallafel

Not any particular restaurant, try the little cafes in the centre near the Roman amphitheatre.Drink the mint tea in one of the many road side cafes and watch the world go by for a while. We Were rather surprised just how clean Amman is and you are not bothered by people begging or trying to sell you something you do not want to buy. The city centre was very busy and the traffic seems to come from every direction. Still I think it is more organised and less hectic and very certainly cleaner and friendlier than Cairo.

You really can't go wrong in Jordan. Whether its hummus, shwarma, falafel, or anything else, you'll be able to find great food anywhere you go. I recommend looking for a guy like the one below (his restaurant was in Petra, but his friends are everywhere), and enjoying the delicious food. Lamb Shwarma, Hummus

best idea for a short...

by MProcher

best idea for a short excursion out of Amman is - in my opinion - Kan Zamaan. It is located about half an hour outside Amman, no need to describe how to go there, every hotel, tourist info, taxi driver ... will know.It is a mixture of a local and touristic restaurant. You'll find Jordans (not the poor) there as well as tourists. It's a big building with even some shops included that had been part of stud before. They serve properly prepared and cooked meals, mostly local ones with an international touch.
