by MalenaN Camels are not very much used by the beduines today but in Wadi Rum you can go on a camel trek. I had heard a lot before coming hear that it was a very nice experiense but your budy would be in a lot of pain after (but people I met in Wadi Rum said there were no problems). I skipped the camel this time but if I will make another trip to Wadi Rum I will defenitly go on a camel trek. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by MalenaN Most people stay in Wadi Mousa when visiting Petra. It is walkingdistance between the two but as the road down to Petra is steep and you probably will do a lot of walking in Petra it is good to take a taxi to the entrance of Petra. Most hotels offers the taxi ride for free. When in Petra there are several ways to go around if you don't want to walk. From the entrance there are horse-drawn cabs going through the siq to the Treasury (Al-Khazneh). From the treasury to the theatre or "city centre" you can ride a camel. Up to the Monestary you can rid a donkey. It doesn't look convenient neither for the man or donke though. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

by TheWanderingCamel South Amman = 14 North Amman, Madaba, and Nebo = 16 Alruseifa and surrounding = 19 Alsalt and surrounding, and Alzarqa = 22 Dead Sea, King Hussein Bridge, baptism site, Ma'in springs = 26 Jerash, Alghor Al Aust = 27 Ajloun, Alazraq, Irbid, and desert castles = 32 Wadi Mousa and Petra = 59 Aqaba = 90 These prices in all cases are noticeably more expensive than if you take a taxi TO Amman airport. To be fair, the taxis at the airport pay a large fee for the right to operate there. Previously, one had to rely on bargaining, now these prices have been fixed and are not unfair. by MalenaN For driving in the desert in Wadi Rum a 4WD vehicle is a must. Tourists who have rented a car to travell around Jordan in can park it on the parking space next to the resthouse and continue in a rented jeep with guide. Or why not on a camel? Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

by MalenaN There are several buses every day for Damascus, leaving Abdali busstation in Amman. The journey takes about 4 hours + the time at the border. Another way, just a little bit more expensive but probably quicker (as there are fewer persons to go through customs) is to take a servise taxi. Just go to Abdali busstation and wait until a car fills up. I paid 5,5 JD between Amman and Damascus. The service taxi will stop at Baramke busstation in Damascus. Fying to Amman over Austria by herzog63 I flew on Allia as it was the second cheapest ticket that I could find. I don't remember what I paid though. I liked the idea of having a 24 hour stopover in Amman as the hotel was 30 KM from the airport so I figured I'd get to see some of the countryside and maybe a little bit of the city. On the way back to the airport the bus driver took some detours so he could show us some of the city. The Airline itself seemed ok. But there were a couple of weird things that I noticed. I had asked for a seat in the no smoking section and I think I was the only person on the plane that didn't smoke! Including the No Smoking section! The other thing was when it was time to land the Fasten Your Seat Belt sign would come on but I estimate that at least half the people on the plane were standing all the way through the landing!! I had never seen that before! I didn't matter to me but it just seemed weird! The picture is taken of over Austria. Probably one of the weirder flights that I've ever taken. Whilst at the station in Amman, waiting for the train to Damascus to depart, the stationmaster showed me a beautifully restored steam engine and some smart, traditional style carriages, which, he explained, would shortly be running a regular service between Wadi Rum and Aqaba (a 20-kilometre, two-and-a-half hour trip) along a line forming part of the Hejaz Railway, which is currently in use by goods trains only. The stations are being upgraded too and should be completed early next year. The website given here has a news article about the train. You will need to look it up under the date June 28 2005 Leave a Comment

by shellseeker In 1995 there was only a public ferry going from Aqaba to Nuweiba/Egypt. The trip was about 3 hours and the ferry was crowded with workers going home at the end of Ramadan (from Saudi Arabia to Egypt) to celebrate with the family (packed with presents!!!)! by shellseeker Queen Alia Int. Airport is the point of entry for most visitors. Many airlines from all over the world fly to Amman. The national carrier is Royal Jordanian Airlines. The country is not very big and the roads are in excellent conditions. The car or the bus are the best means of transportation. There is only one domestic flight route served by RJ between Amman and Aqaba. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane
