Banks Charge excessive commissions for changing currency.
Traveller cheques are VERY hard to change.
Unique Suggestions: I went to a local exchange office in a Jami'iya at al Rowdha (a local supermarket, there's one in every neighbourhood) because our hosts recommended it.They had no problems accepting travellers cheques, Swiss Francs, Omani Rials and US$ notes (ahem, was heading towards brokesville by then and needed all the cash i could get)
Fun Alternatives: Check if you can get Dinar's before you travel to Kuwait
Have US$ with you, you'll get better rates for them.
Visa cards are widely acceptable.

Many out of date guidebooks talk about visiting the Dhow builders at Doha village. They are long gone. The US army took over Doha in 2004 and turned it into Camp Doha closing roads and sealing the area. Don't waste your time driving out here, there is nothing to see. The US soldiers are happy to have a chat to you when you get there but it is not worth the drive out of the city.

Avoid the porters
As you approach the luggage belt in Kuwait airport, you'll be attacked by swarms of cingalese and bangladeshi porters with trolleys, offering you to carry their bag. Be wary of giving them a go and indicate clearly that you don't want their service, otherwise they'll act swiftly and charge you half a dinar (1.5 EUR). Also, they'll only carry your bag for about 50 metres to the taxi stand.
Unique Suggestions: If you can't really carry the luggage, make sure at least that they lift it through the compulsory X-ray machines at the exit and load it in the taxi trunk.
Fun Alternatives: Carry the luggage for yourself!

Some taxis I've hauled at night have ripped me off asking 5 KD for trips that had cost half as much at daytime.
Unique Suggestions: You can try haggling but usually it's not worth the effort (it's not that much money anyway).
Fun Alternatives: Avoid hauling and have a taxi come pick you up. You don't need any number, just pick a driver you like and ask him his business card. He'll be anywhere you want with a 20 mins notice on a 24/7 basis.
dont get trapped in +50C heath on the weekend especialy. You will be lucky to get taxi and then to find out that taxi driver doesnt speak any english and have no clue about your hotel :) keep the map with you!!! Taxi is cheap, took us 2dinars to get to the hotel from aquarium.. very little :) which is about 5usd
Fun Alternatives: sorry.. no alternative :) keep sunbathing while waiting :)
