Scientific Center: Aquarium and IMAX

The scientific Center is located at Salmiya area, at the beach side. The attractions in Scientific Center will be the aquarium and the IMAX. The entrance fee will be 3KD for each but you may get 5KD entrance tickets for both sites. The shark aquarium is the biggest one in the complex among the other smaller ones. Check the website for the shark feeding time. No flash in the aquarium area. The IMAX is not really a big one but could be a great place for the kids. It has a good walking path for jogging and traditional boats outside. It could be a good place for a family vacation.

Kuwait Towers

Kuwait towers which is the symbol and most impressive building of the city. Towers were built in 70's and took some damage during the invasion by Iraq army. Entrance inside the tower is possible by paying something around 3-5 US $'s. You can have a great view of the city and gulf. The tower has also a cafe and a restaurant. During the dinner times an artist plays a piano. And one floor up, is designed as a watch point. At this floor you may see the photos of the towers while they were built and the destruction it saw during the war. Below writes something like "Blooddy barbarians damaged the towers like this".

Fish Market

You can drop to here by saying Sharq to the taxi driver. Sharq is a shopping mall actually and behind the shopping mall there is a building where fish, vegetables and fruits are sold in two different halls. Kuwait was a fishermen town before oil became an industry. You can feel the strong ties of the city and sea from the big marina and this fish market. Also one can see many people fishing in the pier and in the beach in front of this market, if you go out for a walk in the evenings.

Social life in Kuwait is limited with shopping malls. Marina mall is located in the beach. Has two parts one in the beach side other on the other side of the way which goes along the beach. Many coffee houses and a food court exists. Interesting thing for me was the real trees and pool inside the mall.

What the hell is that??..Kuwait Towers !!..I see..

I bought a t-shirt with Kuwait Towers drawing on it for my friend as a souvenir from Kuwait and he asked me,`What the hell is that?`:-)) Well, it may not be seen as the same as other towers anywhere. This is the trademark of Kuwait, it will be on any of Kuwait souvenirs.. mug, t-shirt, handcrafts, book, cards, towel, etc. So YOU HAVE TO COME TO KUWAIT TOWERS when you visit Kuwait!!See the website for the towers history and details. The entrace fee will be 1KD and keep your ticket for the viewing sphere. The kids under 4years old will not be charged. Kuwait towers have 3towers but the main attraction will be in the main/highest tower. It has the 2levels of viewing sphere (9AM-12MN) and some restaurants (a cafe will be opened at 8AM, see the pic of the welcome board), lower level than the viewing sphere. Friday Market, Kuwait flea market

Friday market is Kuwait`s flea market.You can find the second hand things here for good deal.There are some new items for furnitures,clothes,and carpets too with good prices,though furnitures quality is poor.Good carpets can be found here with reasonable price and good quality.One more thing,you should bargain here for all the things.It is newly renovated from the messy and hot flea market before.You can do shopping conveniently now with more options to see.The entrance will be full of mud for now since the renovation still going on for the parking place.Friday market will be opened from Thursday afternoon untill Saturday afternoon.The best time to go for shopping is Thursday afternoon and Saturday morning,where you still get good items and the place will not be crowded.You may get the good price on Friday though.It is located in Shuwaikh,near Reggae area.There will be many porters with...

Kuwait Zoo: A Tiny zoo in a tiny country

Kuwait zoo will be one of the alternatives you may choose for outing when the weather is good. It is a small zoo but will be quite fun for the kids though, with its road train and camel riding. The extreme weather of Kuwait (especially on summer) could not accommodate all types of the animals for the zoo and we can understand that. All the animals will be in the cages (quite small to live in) and fed appropriately. There is a part of the zoo for playground and family picnic but you have to keep your food in the locker area before entering the animal section of the zoo. The entrance fee will be 0.500 KD during holiday and 1 KD for working days. The opening hours will be from 8AM to 8PM. The time will be changed during Ramadan/fasting month. See the camel races

From Nov. to Mar. you can visit the Kuwait Camel Racing Club to see the camel races. Instead of small boys, remote controlled robots are used to race the camels, operated by men in jeeps alongside the track!I didn't believe it 'til I saw it! Free to watch. Indoor seating with TV screens but you can go outside to watch and take photos.

Spend a day at a beach club

The Palms Hotel is a nice beach club to spend a day at. They have an excellent gym, sauna and steamroom, tennis courts, exercise classes, several pools, a large sunbathing area, a beach and several places to eat at. You can buy a day pass for around 15 dinars per person.

Visit Marina Crescent for a meal

Across the road from Marina Mall is Marina Crescent where you can have something to eat in the various restaurants there. There is outdoor seating with nice views of the small marina. Popular at weekends. You may even see "Exercise Man" working out!!
