A Tour of the Grand Mosque

by chizz

To get an insight into Islam, take a free tour of the Grand Mosque. See inside and out and ask questions. Dress modestly. Women will be given an abaya and head covering to wear if they don't have their own. Starts at 9am (not Fridays).

Visit the Aquarium/Imax Theatre

by chizz

The Aquarium is a nice place to visit to see both fish and animals on display. The Imax theatre is in the same building. Costs around 3 dinars pp per activity (£6 approx.) Probably the most expensive thing I did in Kuwait.

Visit Failaka Island by ferry

by chizz

Take a ferry to Failaka Island - the journey takes about 1 and a half hours and the fare is a few pounds pp. To take your car over is not cheap but you can hire a car very cheaply by the hour on the Island. See the bombed house from the Invasion, there is a small resort with accommodation and wave runners can be hired at the beach.

Marina Waves

by pangtidor

It is a waterfront building, can be reached by a passage way from Marina crescent side. You can recognize the building by its sailing ship shape at the Marina beach. Besides the restaurants, another interesting place will be the 12.5m wall climbing center. You may go for climbing with the professional guide and equipments will be provided with the rental fee. Great view of sunset (look at the pictures) and Kuwait Arabic Gulf Street area. It will be opened at 10AM to 12MN.

Entertainment City

by pangtidor

Entertainment city is the biggest leisure park in Kuwait, located in Al-Doha, west part of Kuwait. Many rides for family and kids and many of them will be included in your entrance ticket. You have to pay for few rides like Tornado and rollercoaster though. It has good theme parks (Arab world, International World, Future World), boat ride, and rail train across the park, and many fast food restaurants within. The entrance fee is 3.500KD but during special occasions (Eid, national day, Independence Day) the entrance fee will be 1KD only. The opening hours will be from 4 to 12PM (summer), 230-1030PM (winter), 10AM-9PM (holiday), and will be closed on Saturdays.

GREEN ISLAND

by pangtidor

Green Island is a waterfront leisure park on an artificial island, along the Arabic gulf street, nearby Saab area. It is a good place for family picnic, especially for the kids. It has a restaurant, good playground for kids, train road, bicycle rent, good walking path along the beach with Arabic Gulf Street view, and many good points for the outdoor picnic meals. It could be seen like other seaside area along Kuwait beach but the green environment brings another color for a picnic in a desert country. The entrance fee is 0.500KD per person and will be opened from 8AM to 10PM daily.

Hawally Park

by pangtidor

Hawally Park is one of the amusement park located within Hawally area at the Tunis Street, between Al-Mohalab Mall and Jarir bookstore. It is a small park with some rides, good enough to spend some time with your kids. Some good shops and restaurants will be around this park. The opening hours for the working days will be at 10.30AM-12Noon and 4PM-12MN, whereas the holiday time at 2PM-12MN. The entrance fee is free but you have to pay around 0.250 to 1 KD for each ride.

Kuwait Towers

by MM212

The iconic needles of Kuwait have become a symbol of the city. They were built in the late 1970s to serve multiple purposes. The highest of the three rises 187 metres and has a rotating restaurant in the top sphere. It also serves as a water tower. The middle needle is a water tower, while the smallest (no sphere) regulates electricity and lights up the other two. The needles are located by the shores of the Gulf and provide a panoramic view of the city and the Gulf.

Water Towers

by Hexepatty

It's kinda like the Statue of Liberty of NYC or Eiffel Tower of Paris or London Eye of London. When in Kuwait, you simply feel compelled to visit the Water Towers. You pay a fee. (I think it was like $3USD if not less) Has Air Con. Decent views, 360 degrees, to boot. It was worth it. It rotates on the top observation deck. There is a cafe at a lower height, and it's free. Trust me, we were tempted to just do the Free Cafe Look See, but decided to pay the $3USD and go all the way. You should too: you get the 360 degree unobstructed view ONLY from the top observation deck. Historical facts: The concept of the Towers began 1962; Construction started in 1975 and was completed by 1979. The three towers were built for multi-purpose operations. One, the needle shaped tower, provides electricity to the suburbs in Kuwait. The Second, middle, tower stores up to one million gallons of water. It got...

Desert Wildlife

by Ewingjr98

The desert in central Kuwait is unbearably hot and dry. Despite this extreme weather, many animals can be found in the area. Our favorite is called the Dhub-Dhub or spiky-tailed lizard. This is also a favorite among the locals, as they like to eat the tails. In my short time here, I also saw scorpions, camel spiders, a desert fox, desert cats, squirrel-like creatures, and sparrow-ish birds everywhere. Others have been lucky enough to see horned vipers.
