Kuwait Beach Malls

by pangtidor

Mall is the only place you can enjoy in Kuwait when the temperature will reach 50`C.Kuwait has good malls, especially with the beach view like Marina mall,Soukh Sharq, and Al Kout Mall. All of them has nice food courts and cafes with the beautiful view of Kuwait beaches. The most important thing,it is a safe place for everybody. You can rent a yacht and roaming around the mall, you can go for fishing,or just sit yourself watching sunset there. Dress up for the malls !! The Kuwait beach malls are the best ones among other malls, you may see well fashioned local people here too. Dont be shy to put your make up on girls, many Kuwaiti girls will spend hours in beauty pailors before going to the mall. Great sunrise at the Marina Crescent side and the best sunset in Shouk Sharq mall. See the separated tips for each mall in shopping tips.

Kuwait Fishermen

by pangtidor

Whenever somebody will go to Sharq Market (Shouq Sharq), the ocen site`s main attention will be the sunset and the yachts, parking in the front of the mall. Try something new, the original ones ! Take a walk till the back side of fish market (from the back of Sharq Mall to the palace`s direction) and observe the traditional fishermen. It is such a nice experience to see the traditional boats with the city schene as the background. Check out the pictures. You may see boats without names all along the beach but they proudly display the Kuwait`s flag as their pride to keep the local tradition. The best time will be late afternoon, just before the sunset. Great sunset on that site and great time for sailing.

Look for Saddam Hussein Memorabilia

by Ewingjr98

In the days of Saddam Hussein's rule of Iraq, the evil dictator's image was everywhere from statues to paintings and money. After his downfall, this memorabilia has migrated out of the country in the hands of the military or other visitors. Throughout Kuwait, you can often find these images of the former President of Iraq.Old Iraqi money is for sale for about US$1 per piece of paper money. Even though it isn't worth 5 cents.

Take a helicopter ride!

by Ewingjr98

If you know anyone at the American military bases in Kuwait, you can try to go on a helicopter ride. If not, you will certainly see the American choppers flying around the country. It's defiantly the fastest way between any two points in this country, or between Kuwait and Iraq.

CRESCENT SIDE OF MARINA MALL

by pangtidor

Everybody in Kuwait knows Marina Mall but only some love to go to the other end of the main marina mall building, THE CRESCENT SIDE.You may go to this place by crossing the street through a bridge from Marina Mall.It is located at the cross of Harley Davidson counter and beside Cinabon stand and Virgin Megastore (the book section). You can go there directly too, just across the Marina Mall on the Gulf Arabian Street.I may tell it is the best place for you to see sunrise in Kuwait. Some yachts will be parking at its shore and lots of cuisine varieties are available there. It is nice for family picnic. The beach is clean and safe.It has some basketball courts and big parking lots. This side is the perfect place for jogging or walking. From this place you may just walk for 5-10minutes to Hard Rock Cafe.A lovely windy beach for you during summer and a lovely restaurants treat with great views...

See the entire country (almost)

by american_tourister

The Kuwait Towers are the iconic structure of the country. They are on a point of land near the center of the city and they are revered by the Kuwaitis. The Iraqis tried to bring them down with shellfire untill they discovered that the two smaller towers are actually water towers. Since the Iraqis wanted to keep the country they decided not to wreck the infrastructure. The big tower is an observation deck and from up here you can probably see about 1/4 of the country. It's a pretty small place after all.

Bombed Aircraft Shelters

by Ewingjr98

After Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990, they took over Ali al Salem Air Base in central Kuwait. They also moved their aircraft forward to this airfield. When Desert Storm kicked off in January 1991, one of the top priorities of the US was to destroy Saddam Hussein's flying forces. In that initial effort, the US launched missile strikes against much of this airfield, and destoryed the hardened aircraft shelters. If you can get on this Kuwaiti base, you can't miss the huge concrete bunkers with 20-30 foot diameter holes in the roofs and sides. Some of the explosions hurled blocks of cement 200 feet in every direction.According to local legend, the shelters were constructed by the French with the guarantee they would be bomb proof. After they were destroyed, the Kuwaitis refused to pay for shelters that didn't meet the bomb-proof guarantee. The French response was they were guaranteed to be bomb...

Camels

by Ewingjr98

Yes, there are camels in the desert. Camel races are apparently common, and there are "stables" where you can go to ride camels. In fact some of the biggest slavery problems in the Middle East are from child camel jockeys.Camels are often seen along the highway and can cause serious accidents.

Mosque at Ali Al Salem

by Ewingjr98

This is a run-down mosque at Ali Al Salem near Jahra. Not much here and it doesn't seem to be used much except by the guy in the run-down car. This little mosque is on the Kuwaiti side of Ali al Salem Air Base.

Prisoner Art

by Ewingjr98

These drawings at an aircraft shelter on a Kuwaiti airbase were (as the story goes) made by Kuwaitis who were held prisoner by the Iraqi invaders in 1990. They are located on Kuwait's Ali Al Salem Air Base, west of Kuwait City.
