Fish Market:An other Palace?:-)

by pangtidor

If you like seafood, fish market will be the most convenient place to shop in.It is relocated at Sharq seaside, beside Shouk Sharq. It has big parking lot, you can enjoy the nice view around.Fish market itself is clean and fully airconditioned. You should bargain whenever you buy anything there and you can ask them to clean the fish you had bought.Shrimps, crubs, and squids wont be find all the time as there will be some special months for selling them. When you want to buy more, you can get porters there to bring your troley.Ask the porters first for their fee.You should get a pile or basin in your car to put your fish or whatever you buy there so the things you had bought won`t spoil your car.

Cultural Centre with a range of activities

by siinq8

Check out the AWARE centre, which stands for Advocates of Western Arab Relations. It was set up a couple of years ago to improve relations between and promote understanding between westerners and Arabs. It is basically a kind of drop in centre that has a range of activities which are either free or very cheap. They do Arabic classes, weekly 'diwaniyas' (gatherings in a Arabic style lounge where various topics are discussed), organised trips to things such as the Grand Mosque, the Kuwait Fund Headquarters, the camel races, etc. They also have desert camp trips in winter, Arabic calligraphy workshops, cultural bazaars and Middle Eastern food fairs. Oh, and not forgetting Arabic cookery classes. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful, and there is a small bistro, library and internet facilities in house too.

Take a drive to the Iraqi border

by Ewingjr98

From Kuwait City, drive 100 kilometers north toward Abdaly. This route was once known as the "Highway of Death" after Desert Storm, but has been mostly cleaned up. You will still see a few destroyed buildings and a knocked-over radio tower. As you approach the border with Iraq, you begin to see dozens, then hundreds of trucks making their way into Iraq with critical reconstruction supplies and materials. At the border, they'll check your passport, and maybe let you through...

Tank Graveyard

by Ewingjr98

After the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait, Saddam Hussein massed his army along the border between Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. When the American Army attacked from the rear, the Iraqis had no where to go, and much of their army was destroyed. For several years, the "highway of death" pointed the way from Kuwait City to the Iraqi border along the highway from Jahra north to Abdaly. Today, the highways have been cleaned up, and the tanks have been collected into "Tank Graveyards" like this one north west of Jahra along a military-only road called Iron Horse Road. This area is full of hundreds of tanks, trucks, artillery pieces and other heaps of rusted & busted metal.

Kuwait Towers

by ChristinaC

You have to visit these towers if you are in Kuwait City. Kuwait towers have become one of the most important landmarks of Kuwait. They are a symbol of its development and continued progress. From the big tower you will be able to see Kuwait City a little from above, it's really amazing, and extremely beautiful to get the view over most of the city!

Kuwait Towers

by Badger23

They look like something I pulled out of a martini, backwards, but you get to go up inside one and get a 360 of Kuwait city and the coastline. I think it cost like 5 bucks for a pass but its got some good photo ops. Keep an eye out for the pictures on the wall because they are horribly mistranslated and filled with grammatical errors. Just like my posts!

by KonstantinII

A must see will definitely be this beautiful architectural wonder!Belgrade had a wonderful TV tower on Avala but then one day in spring of 1999 British bombardier (Harrier or some other deadly machine) when the pilot and his “mad cow” commander in Aviano or some other devils pit saw that there’s nothing they could do to make people of Belgrade surrender decided to crash the tower. Tourism is not an industry here...yet

by Jim70563

Do not expect most things a Western tourist expects. This is not a tourist destination (And I don't even think they HAVE tourist Visa's)If you are here for business (Which is the majority) or were sent here by your beloved government you must get out and EXPLORE.There are quite a few things for the western impromptu tourist to see. Minarets, camels running amok, the desert, Dhows (Fishing boats) and much more.

by Divingmouse

Drive the Gulf Road towards the city. You will see many mosques, one of the Emir's Palaces, the new fish market, the Kuwait Towers (the most photographed building in Kuwait), the new Sharq Mall, and last, but not least, you will find the old fishing port. The old fishing port is filled with Dhows, huge old wooden fishing boats still used to this day for the majority of the fishing in Kuwait. The fishermen are mostly Indian in nationality and very friendly although communication might be hard unless you can speak thier language or Arabic.

by jomlin

Visit the fish market on Gulf Highway near the Sharq Center. The Kuwaiti fisherman bring their fresh catch to the market. Place it on the floor and the bidding begins. It is loud and smelly. They are cutting up fish with hatchets. Plenty of local flavor.
