visit South of Lebanon...Unfortunately South Lebanon suffered 22 years of Israeli occupation so not all Lebanese including myself had a chance to visit until recently. I always thought that the South had flat landscape but to my surprise it's full of greenery and fabulous landscape...

Bring a guide book with you and enjoy your trip. People are so friendly, if you have any question just ask anybody on the street, he will help you for sure. Great weather, history, fun, and pretty girls.

Downtown Beirut

by raniou

Well as I already told you, the downtown was renewed and renovated, because it has been destroyed from the war...Here's just a pic of how it was in the war and after it...I found it interresting, but personnaly it reminds me of bad period in my life (almost half of it) and in the life of a lot of lebanese who stayed in the country during the war...

Beirut Downtowngo to: www.downtownbeirut.com Beirut's Downtown district lies at the geographic and historical heart of the modern city. Before the civil war, Downtown Beirut was the commercial, financial and administrative centre of Lebanon. So when faced with the huge task of rebuilding confidence in the country, the Downtown area was one of the first to be considered for reconstruction - a chance to recreate a city that could once again be the 'Paris of the Middle East.I believe that the work they did was huge and really successful. It is now surrounded by the best shops in town and the nicest restaurants. Don't miss that place to go eating, shopping or just jogging....

Start in Beirut, you've probably flown into this city anyway. A city that still shows a tremendous impact of the last war (which was still ongoing in some areas of the country when I visited there in '98) and has to deal with political challenges but develops fast and adopts Western amenities. The hospitality of the people.

You must visit the Metn area including Lamartine Valley. It is truly beautiful. The mountains are the best part of Lebanon, including the people, but nothing compares to the ecclectic personalities you will encounter in Beirut. Be sure to always make friendly conversation with Taxi drivers, hair dressers, shop attendents, and average pedestrians. The Lebanese people love to show off their amazing knack of languages. My fondest memories of Lebanon are walking on Rouchieh and Manara in the evenings and stopping at Bliss House across from AUB for a delicious chocolate banana milk shake. I also miss taking long walks in the mountains.
