Telepherique ride

by marimar_72

In all of the times I went to Lebanon I only had a chance to ride the telepherique in may 2002,(it was shut down in the time of the civil war).To tell you the truth I was more excited than my 7 year old daughter. The ride takes you from down town Junieh to Harissah where you can see the statue of Mary and the chance to visit the Maronite Cathedral. The lebanese like to call it the "terror freak"!

If you like heights

by flynboxes

If you like heights you will love this thing. I hate them but am glad I went. When the Teleifique was first built there was nothing around it. Now as you climb above the city in tiny 4 passenger gondolas you pass within feet of apartment buildings as you dangle above the highway on your way up to the top to see the statue of the Virgin Mary.

Visit Tripoli

by TomorrowsAngel

Tripoli is Lebanon's second largest city after Beirut. It's full of interesting old souks to explore and has a reputation for having the best Arabic sweets in Lebanon. You can drive to Tripoli from Beirut and back in a day, we drove there on the speedy inland motorway and back via the scenic coastal highway.

Romans in the Valley

by flynboxes

This has to be one of the hidden gems in the world that few often see. The city of Baalbek or Heliopolis as it was once called dates back to the first century AD. It containes the tallest Roamn columns in the world. The Temple of Jupiter is said to be the largest temple ever built. Considering that I have never been to Greece...standing at the foot of the Temple of Bacchus was truely awsome for me. You have to see it to believe it!The site itself sits in the middle of the city. You can take one of the many tours from Beirut or catch a local bus or cab to get there. The trip to the city is a bit of a kick since this is where Hizbollah rules and you are reminded of that by the numerous billboards along the side of the road. It's far from dangerous but it can be an eye opener for some. You just need to remember that the city and the people do a decent business off the tourism trade. It is a...

In The South...

by coceng

In the south of Lebanon, there are 2 places that could be combined together which you can go for a day trip from Beirut. The first is Sidon or the locals call it Saida. It is the biggest city in the south of Lebanon & also an old port city. Don't forget to visit The Sea Castle or Qalat al-Bahr. Find a spot in The Sea Castle, sitting down alone while watching the big waves pounding the shore.Click on the photo & you'll see The Sea Castle & The Souqs in Saida.MY SIDON PAGE...

Beirut The Capital...

by coceng

Beirut is the capital; Beirut is also still being built. You will either enter the capital first or other places near the border with Syria. When you are in Beirut, you have to walk around The Nejemeh Square or also known as Place d'Etoile as there are some nice buildings & also some Roman era ruins. Also to be seen are some buildings which are brightly lighted especially at night as you can see from the photos.MY BEIRUT PAGE...

Pigeon Rocks...

by coceng

While still in Beirut, walk along the corniche is a good way to exercise your legs & end the walk near The Pigeon Rocks, especially during sunset. Excellent way to end the day while sipping drinks alone or with some people looking over the Mediteranean Sea ! You won't be alone as many Beirut's city dwellers would join you as well overlooking the sunset through The Pigeon Rocks.MY SUNSET PHOTOS IN BEIRUT...

Beccharah- birthplace of Kahlil Gibran

by uglyscot

The famous Lebanese poet, philosopher and artist Kahlil Gibran was born in Beccarah, near Mount Lebanon.Having seen the place where he grew up, and then re-reading his work "The Prophet", I was able to realise how much his birthplace had affected his writing: Would that I could gather your houses into my hand, and like a sower scatter them in forest and meadow.Would the valleys were your streets, and the green paths your alleys, that you might seek one another through vineyards, and come with the fragrance of the earth in your garments. But these things are not yet to be.In their fear your forefathers gathered you too near together. And that fear shall endure a little longer. A little longer shall your city walls separate your hearths from your fields.Kahlil Gibran in " The Prophet"

Glorious grotto

by uglyscot

The caves of Jaeita are an absolute must.It is only possible to see a small fraction of the caves at upper and lower level as the whole cavern is so huge. The stalagmites and stalactites are breathtaking, though monochrome. The trip up to the caves is by telefrique, then by train to the lower caves, followed by a boat trip inside the lower caves. Altogether a memorable trip.Photography is not permitted so you have to deposit your camera in a safety box. There is a film show at the entrance - our guide didn't mention this [probably time did not permit] , though my husband later went and was taken to see it, and raved about it.
