offert by xaver We maily moved from Beirut to the other places we wanted to visit by private car as they were not too expensive and, above all, having not so much time available, they were the best choice. We just toke the bus on our way back from Tripoli to Beirut and it was funny as, the sign on the bus, the time table, the seats number and everything else were written in arab, but a man in front of the bus shouting Ale Beirouttt made clear to everyone where the bus was directed. The tiket was incredibly cheap, less than one dollar and, only now, thank to my friend marimar translation, I can understand that it was a special offert for Ramadan month! airport by xaver We flew from Rome to Beirut with Middle east airline, a really good company, apart for the fact that they practically rmeind you to have a diet with their incredibly small seats, and they also would like you to not be lazy as their flyght from Beirut leaves at 6.30 am! Middle east a company to better your life style :-) Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

Boat trip in Byblos (Jbail) by MalenaN In the harbour in Jbail (Byblos) there are a few boats for sight-seeing. Whene I was there my second time I think the waves were to high for the boats to go on a tour, but a group with school children came and probably they had been looking forward to the tour. The boats with the school children went back and forth through the harbour opening, jumping on the waves. Hearing their shouts and cheering I think they had a fun time. road to Baalbeck is still closed by sachara From the ski resort the Cedars a road is leading through the mountains to the Beeka Valley. The road is only open in the summer months. When we visited the Cedars end April, we had a good look at the road from the parking lot in the Cedars and saw that the road was still covered with snow. After Bcharre was Baalbeck in the north of the Beeka Valley our next stop, but we had to make a detour, back to Beirut at the coast and from there we could cross a lower part of the mountains to the Beeka Valley. The buses in Lebanon are considered one of the cheapest way to move around,,you only have to know the routes of each one... Ask any local person they will be very delighted to help you.It costs about 500 Lebanese Lira(about 1/3 of a $) per ride within one route. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus

red plate=taxi by call_me_rhia there are several ways to get around Lebanon. The cheapest is by bus - but you can also use minibuses, shared taxis 8service) or private taxis. Buses leave from Charles Helou station in Beirut for Tripoli and some cities in the south: you can also get shared taxis to Syria from here. Minibuses leave from Cola station (Beirut) for Baalbeck and some cities in the south. Shared taxis - within cities - usually cost 1000 Lebanse pounds per person - private taxis 5000. And by the way - you recognize a taxi by its red license plate Leave a Comment Theme: Other

To go around beirut : it is easy to use the (service)taxi, where you share the taxi with other passengers, this will cut on the price but this taxi only goes in a certain route, which makes it more expensive if you want to be dropped off at a certain place. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Parking in Qana by MalenaN If you don't want to go by public transport or have little time, you can rent a taxi for a day. Be sure to negociate the price before. I and three other persons from the hotel where I stayed went with a taxi one day to south Lebanon. We paid 20 dollar each (lunch included) for the route Saida (to get the permits from the military), Beaufort Castle, Khiam, Kfar Khila and Qana. On the way back to Beyrouth we stoped for 15 minutes at closeingtime at the Hippodrome in Sour so that the person who hadn't been there before could see it. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

taxi's are the main type of transportation for anyone without a car in lebanon. The taxi has many different guises here... you will hear them beeping at you all the time... it's not that they're hounding you, they are actually just being polite and asking if you want to go somewhere. The first type of taxi is similar to a minicab in that they are usually plush cars that you call a central office (such as allo taxi or safe taxi) and they send a car out to you. This is usually the most expensive but comfortable way of travelling. The second type is the service taxi... you'll see these as older mercedes travelling around the city... make sure when you speak to them you ask sarveess (service in french accent) and the place you want to go... they will either drive off (meaning no) or tell you to get in... usually a service taxi is very cheap costing between 500 and 1500LL depending on how far you are going. This taxi will take a little longer to get to where you are going because the driver will pick up other people on the way like a bus. If you don't mention "service" then the driver will become a normal taxi and charge you a different rate... although it's still not that expensive. The last kind of taxi you will see, are big big old american cars that look like they are held together with bungee cords etc... but they are comfortable to sit in the back of. These taxi's generally drive all the way through to syria and back again. Although i would check on this before you try because of the current political situation between lebanon and syria. The journey to syria takes a couple of hours. Leave a Comment Theme: OtherOther Contact: Ronza on VT

by MalenaN As Lebanon is a small country it is very convenient to stay in Beirut and make daytrips to other parts of the country from there. Charles Helou station: From here you take the buses to Syria and the north of Lebanon. From Charles Helou I always took the small bus (Nakliat al Abiad) to Tripol. The bus drops you wherever you want to get off. Tripoli: 1000 LL (in June), 1500 LL (in August) Jbeil (Byblos): 1000 LL Jounieh: 1000 LL Nahr al Kalb: 1000LL Dawra (Dora): This staiton is east of Charles Helou. If you have stoped a bus along the way going back to Beirut this is were the bus often stops. From here you can take a minibus to Charles Helou for 500 LL. Cola: From here you take the buses to Baalbeck and the south. Saida (Sidon): 750 LL (big local bus), 1000 LL (small bus), 1500 LL (bus with AC). Sour (Tyre): 1500 LL or 2000 LL depending on bustype. Damour: 750 LL - 1000 LL Baalbeck: 3000 LL (in June) now I think it is 4000 LL. Leave a Comment Theme: Bus
