You can go to Lebanon by car,by plane and by boat.By car you can enter the country from Syria. The road network from Syria is very good.By plane, hmmmm. The Beirut International Airport is one of the best airports in the Eastern Maditerranean. There are flaights from all over the world.By boat you can enter the country also from all over the world. There are few large horbours-Beirut,Jounieh,Tripoli and Sidon. There are very cheap cabs.Ofcourse you should give a lowwer prize for the rout! The publick transport is good.

by Air through Beirut International Airport, by Sea from Cyprus, and by car through Syria.VERY TRICKY. there are no underground trains. Buses do not have schedules nor a clear routing. Taxis can be a trap for tourist. SO ? ? buses and service/taxis pass by on major routes, you just jump in, pay 500-2000LL depending on how far you are going. and get off wherever you want on that route. If you want to go to a specific place:use a taxi.PICTURE: PEOPLE WAITING FOR THE POPE TO PASS BY IN 1997

I wanted to go out to the countryside & so foundthe minibus stations in downtown Beirut,.The station in the Nab'a area was the right onefor buses to the Biqa'. This is a cheap way to travel but it takes longer. You can also hire a cab to go just about anywhere, but negotiate a price for the day or halfday.

Fly from London or Paris. Overland from Syria, Crac de chevalier castle one night ..Balbeck the next 3 hours max apart including border crossing. This is what I enjoyed the most, best way to meet the people. You can get anywhere easily and inexpensively, whether it was by minibus, service taxi or I hired a taxi and driver all day for $60. It was easy to base yourself in one place (say Beirut Byblos or Jounieh/Kaslik)and get anywhere and back in a day or an afternoon. Go again the next day if you liked it.

Travel in a plane for sure. If you want to take a cruise through the Mediteranean then you could always pick one that stops in Lebanon. Best way to get around is in a taxi (5,000-10,000 LL-$3-$7)/ or Service (1,000 LL-$.75) or a governement bus (500 LL). I'm not too fond of the minivan because there are usually lots of smokers, but it's also cheap (500 LL). Another great way to get around is by hiring a driver. There are usually a lot of young men with cars that would be willing to take you anywhere for the right price. It might end up being more economical.

plane is the best, but it is possible to arrive by road from syria;there is no syrian consulate in beyrouth, for syria considers that lebanon is a part of syria;so you cannot ask for a syrian visa in lebanon;see map of the deep south, along the israeli border

I found that catching a 'service taxi' is the cheapest and easiest way of getting around. A 'service taxi' is a taxi that acts mor or less as a bus, without schedules. Quite confusing, I never really figured out the system, but eventually I usually got where I wanted. The trick is to find out where the service taxies pick up and drop off people. There will be some pre-defined place in the city where this happens. I got from Tyre (Sour) to Beirut, and from Beirut to Baalbek and back using these taxies, and it cost me only a couple of dollars. Plus, its a great way to meet people! 6 (yep, not 5) people crammed into an old Mercedes have to get along..

by plane, car thrue the joined borders with Syria, or by sea( the nearest island being Cyprus). Cars, buses..4 sorts of car services are available in Lebanon : rentale ( the most expensive), taxis ( not too expensive), 'service'( cheap, but u'll have to share with other passengers) and finally hitch hiking (this one is for free, but good luck, lebanese don't go for it much!)

Charles Helou Avenue

Following Charles Helou Avenue to the east will take you out of Beirut and to the north. It is a busy road. The busstation Charles Helou is beneath the highway.
