There is a beautiful small coastal town called Tiwi on the way from Muscat to Qalhat on the coastal road. Near to Tiwi are two very beautiful wadis (rivers) known as Wadi Shab and Wadi Tiwi which are a must to visit and have a relaxing time there. More information are at my VT Tiwi page.

There is a huge liquified natural gas plant along the coastal road to Qalhat. Three hundred over kilometres of pipeline carry dry gas from central Oman to this plant for liquefication progess. Apparently, the first successful shipment was sent to South Korea and further developlement is underway for this new technology.

The Bimmah Sinkhole is a very beautiful sinkhole about 200 metres inland from the Gulf of Oman. In this sinkhole, fresh water is mixed with sea water giving it a wonderful colour as seen from the photograph. People can go swimming in this sinkhole of camp by its side. On the top surface, it is not easy to locate this sinkhole and therefore a guide will help.

The tomb of Bibi Mariam is one of the few remaining structures of the ruins of the ancient coastal city of Qalhat. It is worth visiting this interesting place which is not too far from the capital city of Muscat, but you need a 4 wheel drive and preferbly a guide as well. The Eastern Hajar Mountains and the Gulf of Oman provide interesting backdrops to this place.

The coast along Qalhat is very rugged but beautiful as you can see the yellow earth next to the bright blue waters of the Gulf of Oman.

Besides Bibi Mariam's tomb, the underground reservoir is the other structure that remains of the ancient Qalhat city along the coast of Oman.
