Watching the boats entering & leaving Sur
Favorite thing: There is a nice spot near to the old watch towers of Sur next to the water channel, where you can relax and watch the boats entering & leaving Sur. This is also the place where local people are being ferried across the channel to different parts of the town. There are benches here, so you can sit and admire the daily livelihood of the people living in Sur.
The round-about at Sur
Favorite thing: There are many traffic round-abouts in Oman and some of these round-abouts have interesting structures in the centre. When we were filling up petrol at the kiosk, I managed to take a photograph of the round-about at Sur which is of islamic design and has paintings of traditional activities on all 4 sides.
Sunset at Ras Al Hadd
Favorite thing: The sunset at Ras Al Hadd was simply amazing when I was there in Jan 2005. I managed to take some photographs of both the sunrise and sunset which are available the travelogue section of this VT page.
Sunrise at Ras Al Hadd
Favorite thing: Besides the sunset, the sunrise at Ras Al Hadd was also amazing when I was there in Jan 2005. I managed to take some photographs of both the sunrise and sunset which are available the travelogue section of this VT page.
Seagulls along the beach
Favorite thing: There are plenty of seagulls on the beach, especially at Ras Al Hadd. You can see them staying on the beach and then fly to the nearby ocean for feeding before coming back to the beach to rest again. Apparently the sea off Oman is full of marine life which provides a very good feeding ground for the seagulls.
Making new friends
Favorite thing: My Oman trip was wonderful because I made many new friends, including this family which I met at Ras Al Hadd. They are staying in Muscat and came to Ras Al Hadd for their holidays. They had stayed in Singapore, my homeland, in the past and we had a good time chatting and exchanging information admist a nice buffet dinner.
With the man behind Sultan Qaboo's dhow
Favorite thing: I managed to have a photograph with the man who is overseeing the building of Sultan Qaboo's dhow when I was in Sur. There are about 10 people building the dhow at any one time and will be completed sometime in year 2006.
Beautiful colours of the coastline
Favorite thing: The coastline can be very colourful due to different colours of the rocks as well as green algae, seashells etc. A good example is this photograph which is simply amazing.
Favorite thing: All doors in old Sur are really pieces of art.
