Ina country filled with fortresses and castles, you can see why Bahla Fort captured the attention of UNESCO. Not ostentatious, it impresses with its age and grandeur. Although the interior was closed at the time of my visit, and some amount of renovation was still occurring outside, a visit to Bahla Fort is worthwhile, especially if you are visiting Nizwa, nearby.

Address: Bahla town center
There is a small mould next to the road on the way to Bahla. If you have a 4 wheel drive, you could drive up this mould which has a very good view of the town, including the fort. The surrounding mountains and date palm trees make the view very spectacular.

The town of Bahla has an impressive fort which is an UNESCO site, but unfortunately it is still under renovation when I was there in Jan 2005. It looks awesome even from the outside and perhaps you may have a chance to see the interior of the fort if you are in Oman in the future.
