spend some days in Muscat. The better name is Capital Area. The old Muscat - a small city at the eastern coast of Capital Area - is only a part of the wide spread dwelling area.Separated by various low level deserted mountains, Capital Area consists of different parts: Muscat in the East, Mutrah in the Northeast, Ruwi a bit Southwest of these two, further West there are Qurum and Khuwair - and many others, smaller and less important. While Muscat and Mutrah have preserved some old buildings and some traditional Arabic charme with their Suqs and the corniches, Ruwi is the business district where most the important companies have their headquarters. pic shows view over a part of a living area in Ruwi

Muscat

Muscat is a very clean city. All buildings are in concrete in Arab style. There is no skyscrapers. But the Muscat attractions are so spread out.

Tipping and Bargaining

by JohnniOmani

A tip of 10% is standard in hotel chains and restaurants if the service fee hasnt been included in the bill. It is not custom to tip in cafes or coffee shops. Bargaining is for souqs and taxi cabs.

Date trees

by victorwkf

You will see plenty of date trees in Oman as this tree is very important in the middle east as a source of food and honey. It also helps to block the desert sands from damaging the towns.
