During the Khareef, it's nice to see the seafront shrouded in mist with the locals sitting/walking on the beach and fishing too.
With the Dhofar region being famous for its frankincense trees, this area is protected as a heritage site.
Visit Khor Rori ruins which are located on coast with great views of the sea. This is the most important pre-Islamic settlement in the Dhofar region.
Visit the small seaside town of Mirbat to see local women collecting oysters on the beach and see the castle (closed for renovation when we were there in Sep. 2007).
Visit Taqah Castle for a small fee. There are several decorated rooms and you can climb to to roof to see views of the surrounding area.
There are many coconut stalls alond the main roads in Salalah where you can buy coconut milk to drink very cheaply.
Take a taxi or drive yourself to Mughsayl Beach to see the blowholes. Stand by the blowholes and wait for the water to come shooting out at high speed - try not to get too wet! See Al Marneef Cave.
