It is very safe to walk around the Nakhl town and explore how the locals live. Generally, Omanis are very friendly people. The town is very traditional and beautiful among the rugged mountains.
This nice spring is located in Nakhl near to the fort and is a popular picnic and relaxing place for the locals. There is a hot spring from water flowing from the Western Hajar Mountains as well as a small stream which is teeming with fishes. Beautiful date palm trees line the stream and you have a really nice place for relaxation. You can meet a lot of friendly locals here having their picnics, washing their vehicles etc. More photographs are at the travelogue section of this VT page.
The best view of Nahkl town & surroundings must be from the top of Nakhl Fort. From here, you can see almost everything even those in very far distance.
Pop down to Ayn A' Thowarah and have a bath with the locals!
Unfortunately if you're a woman - you gotta stay covered up.
