Scuba Diving in Oman

by DSwede

The saline content of the water is relatively high, so the corals and fish life will not be comparable to the Red Sea or the Pacific for example. In all my research, the best places in Oman appear to be the coral reefs that have grown on the wrecks. But there is Lima Rock and Octopus rock. For good diving, many people go north to peninsula of Musandam.Otherwise, if you are willing to cross the boarder, there are many options on the same coastline but from Fujiarah/Dibba, UAE.I drove by Oman Dive Center but did not have time to stop. From what I know, they are among the most reputable in Oman. They may be able to help: http://www.diveoman.com.om/But take what I wrote with grain of salt because I did not actually have the time to dive from Oman, but did from UAE. Bring what you have, but they dive shop will be able to provide everything you need.

There are dozens of sporting activities you can do Oman. If you are hard up for some gear then your best bet for equipment is hitting up the sports stores in Ruwi in Muscat . They have a lot of gear and for reasonable prices. If you are looking for things like golf clubs, air hockey or baseball gloves then go to Sand and Sun sport shop in the city center mall in Muscat. It is expensive but they just about anything you want. You can even find hockey sticks which is important for Canadians :)

Fitness centers

by JohnniOmani

If you get to Oman and are looking for a fitness center then you can ask one of the local 5 star hotels. All them offer full spa and sauna and gym etc but one of the better ones (and cheaper) is the Radison SAS in Muscat. You can use all their facilities for 5 omani rials or approximately 12 Euros. It is a great way to spend the day especially in the summer when you want to avoid the 50 degree heat in the afternoon.

Divers - for your visit to Oman, I would recommend Bluzone Diving as the operator to go with. Their facilities, boats, and equipment are the best of the bunch. Dolphin and whale watching trips are also undertaken. Christina has everything. Just bring a change of clothes and some suncream.

Suggest you looking at the following sites:http://www.diveoman.com.om/ODC is 15' away from Muscat, it has its own private beach where one can camp or rent a hut. Nice place, nice people, cheapest in Muscat and a great atmosphere for diving , mostly to Bandar Khajan and Fahal island.http://www.bluzonediving.com/BlueZone is located in a Marina near Muscat but no accomodation, just for diving mostly to Bandar Khajan and Fahal island.http://www.alsawadibeach.com/diving1.htmlA confortable holliday resort with a diving center offering trips to the Daymaniyat islands, a plus for diving though a lot more expensive than the previous ones. Camping is also possible at the resortFor a liveboard type of diving adventure in the Musandam, the 'must' for diving in Oman :http://www.musandamdiving.com/andhttp://www.charlotteannecharters.com/index.htm Diving equipment can all be rented on site. The limestone rich sedimentary deposits of Oman's mountains provide the backdropfor those who seek to find the inner path. There are caves of to suit all adventurer's tastes from simple to complex. Oman is now recognized as home of the world's second largest cave (cataloged) the stunning Majlis Al Jinn (Meeting place of the Spirits). Checking in at over 4,000,000 cubic metres, and located in a remote region of the Eastern Hajar Mountains, Majlis Al Jinn is big enough to house five of the Al Bustan Palace Hotel. But, cavers be prepared; The entrance to the cave is 160 metre free descent. Be sure to bring a long rope. Other caves of interest are Al Hoti/Falahi Cave near Al Hamra, Moqul cave in Wadi Bani Khalid, Three Windows Cave System in
