Inside Birkat Al Mawz, Oman

Apparently only one family remained living in the old town of Birkat Al Mawz. My guide managed to located their house which is located behind my guide in this photograph. Perhaps they like living here alone because they have the whole town to themselves and they can live like a king !

Birkat Al Mawz, Oman

The old town of Birkat Al Mawz is situation on the foot of the Western Hajar Mountains which create a stunning view. The town is almost deserted now as most of the people has moved elsewhere. There is only one family living here now. The entrance to Birkat Al Mawz is not easy to find as it is located along a narrow path in between two houses, and many people would have missed it.

Ruins at the old Tanuf town, Oman

As there are not many tourists visiting Tanuf, you can land up in a situation whereby you are the only person in the ruins of the old Tanuf town. This was what happened to me, and the silence in the ruins was indeed very spooky.

Remains of old Tanuf town, Oman

Apparently in the late 1950s, there was some rebellion by the people of this town, and therefore it was being bombed during the war. A lot of people fled to the mountains and the town was badly damaged. What we see today are the remains of this old Tanuf town which was still inhabited in the 1950s before the war came.

Growing crops near to Tanuf, Oman

As you are about to reach the ruins in Tanuf, you will pass by a nice small town which crops are being grown, which is something that is not common in Oman. I stopped by and took this photograph of the crops among the backdrop of the Western Hajar Mountains.

Sunlight shinning onto Tanuf ruins, Oman

I feel that the best time of the day is during late afternoon where the setting sun is not so not, and the yellowish sunlight casts a beautiful yellow colour onto the ruins.
