    The tourist facilities provide accommodations for changing into swimming attire so the visitor can wade into the warm, soothing water.

  • I got there by bus, both on a tourist tour bus & also a local bus. The latter is recommended a great way to meet some of the people & make friends. Also Shared taxi which is quite a cheap & slightly quicker than local bus.

    to judea and samaria,arab buses or collective taxis go to everywhere for a very cheap price;
    to gaza,it is different,because the area is closed;
    the cheapest is to reach tsomet mordekhai,south of ashqelon, with an egged bus;then,you walk 5 kms to erez;tell the soldiers at the border that you are a tourist and that you are against a palestinian state;when you arrive to the palestinian side,say that you are not jewish and that you are for a palestinian state;taxis are waiting for you to any place in the gaza strip, but it will cost you a fortune ;you HAVE to get out of the gaza strip at the same checkpoint
    to jericho:take a bus in arab station near damascus gate ,to abu-dis;from abu-dis,collective taxi to jericho

  • The easiest way to get around int he West Bank are the arab shared "Service Taxis" or "Transit Taxis" - small busses or funny streched Mercedes limos.

    The Service are white with the desitination and bus number in green written on the side (only in arabic). They have yellow (israeli) licence plates and therefore are by israeli military law not allowed to cross checkpoints into palestinian controlled cities (e.g. Ramallah, Betlehem).

    The Transit are yellow with green (palestinian) license plates. You will find them all over the West Bank as well as inside the areas under palestinian control.

    Both of them bring you almost everywhere in the Westbank for a cheap price. To stop a bus on the street just signal him to stop. If the bus is already full, don't be disturbed if they ignore you and just drive by. To find a bus at the station just ask or listen to the loud voices of the special bus-destination-announcers ;-)

    The main bus stations to start/end your travel are:

    - in Jerusalem if you walk out of Damascus Gate straight to the nort into Nablus Road. You will find the Service in direction to Ramallah (to Qualandia checkpoint) and other destinations mainly in the north.

    - in Jerusalem if you walk out of Damascus Gate and turn right on the main street. Walk some blocks and you will find the bus station on the opposite side of the street. Busses there bring you to Abu Dis, Betlehem and other destinantions mainly in the south.

    - Outside Qualandia checkpoint (you can got there from Jerusalem northern bus station). From there you find white and yellow busses to alomst everywhere. The yellow ones go to Nablus, Hebron, Tulkarem, Jericho and so on.

    Go to Qualandia, buy yourself an arab coffee and look at the traffic and the people with the scenery of the checkpoint and the wall. People will maybe walk up to you to have a small nice chat with you - it's an experience for its own!

    Travelling between Israel/Palestine and Jordan

  • If you want to travel between Israel/Palestine and Jordan and you don't want to fly between the two international airports Ben Gurion in Tel Aviv and the one in Amman, you can go by bus and taxi. Then you have the choice between three different border crossings:

    - The one in the north, which is called Sheikh Hussein (in Jordan) / Jordan River crossing (in Israel),
    - the one in the middle, which is the famous King Hussein / Allenby Bridge crossing or
    - the one in the south which is called Arabah / Arava border crossing.

    The Allenby crossing seems to be the most convenient on the first look because it is more or less on the direct line Tel Aviv - Jerusalem - Amman. But watch out: It is therefore the most crowded crossing and if you are not going there pretty early you will take the risk of not beeing able to cross before they close the crossing (yes, they have opening hours). And for entering Jordan from Israel you need a Visa! It's only available from the Jordan embassy in Tel Aviv - or directly at the Araba border crossing :-)

    You can make it an easy and very nice trip like I did by taking the earliest Egged Bus from Tel Aviv or Jerusalem to Eilat with a great stopover at one of the Dead Sea Spas. Then just relax a little on the beach in Eilat and take the taxi to the border crossing (it's not really in walking distance). The border crossing is pretty empty and modern and - not what you expect - the personnel is friendly. You pay some bucks for the entry visa into Jordan (in Jordan Dinar!) and you have crossed. On the Jordan side just take a taxi to Aquaba, Petra or wherever you want to go. Have fun - the Jordanians are really great people! (The border police at the taxi stand offered us tea, cigs and cookies!)
