  • Rooftop bar at Rydges Plaza hotel. It is as cool as it can be in Qatar, and it is a very popular spot for Western expatriates. Bar food, good choice of drinks, usually good music. There is a telly as well, broadcasting sports channels. Great place to socialise with friends, enjoy the atmosphere, and dance if you feel like it.

Smart casual is best, ladies can wear whatever they like.

Sports Bar at Ramada Hotel: StreetNoyz!
  • Tip Rating:
  • Doha doesn't have too many nightspots, but it does have StreetNoyz! They are a Filipino band who play every single night at the Sports Bar in the Ramada Hotel. The lead singer is a flamboyant young man who goes by the name of "Fruit Boy." He also has three lovely ladies as backup singers, though they sometimes take centre stage themselves. They're a cover band, nothing inspirational musically, just alot of fun.

  • Directions: The Ramada is the main landmark at this intersection, which is known as the Ramada Junction. It's a very ugly rectangular building that looks like a big gold brick, though its appearance has been improved by the huge cycling Orry on the side.

Ras Al Nasaa: Go sheesha! :o)

  • This is a great place if you want to get a taste of local life, and a taste of sheesha (hubbly bubbly). Great food too, by the way. A lovely red brick castle on the Corniche opposite the Museum. Go there in the evening and enjoy people watching, good music, great ambience and a smoke! If the weather is nice you can sit outside and enjoy the view, but the planes taking off and landing nearby will start to annoy you at some point :)

Casual or smart casual would do it, and ladies should avoid showing too much skin - this is the place where the local families go, and a scantily clad beauty would feel out of place. Pile on the makeup and bling though. If you are a lady, that is :o)

  • On the top floor of the Rydges Hotel is the Aussie Legends Sports Bar. Lots of matches are shown on TV here. Wednesday is Ladies Night, where ladies get free cocktails from 7-10pm. At other times drinks are just as expensive as they are everywhere else in Doha, i.e. QR 25 for a bottle of Corona. Tuesday is Trivia Night, hosted by Big Al the Aussie quizmaster. The winning team gets a QR 250 voucher for food and drink at the bar.

Al Bandar Restaurant: Sitting by the dock of the bay...
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Al Bandar Restaurant chain is a great place to sit and relax on a great evening. March-May is a perfect time in Qatar because it is not too hot and not too humid yet. Perfect for enjoying a relaxing dinner outside on the back terrace of Al Bandar. The Doha skyline is constantly changing and has changed considerably in the last few years, and it will be a bit different even in a year from now. There are not the typical nightclubs or bars that you find in the west. However it is quite nice to sit out by the water with a sheesha, mint tea or coffee.

Generally you will find people dressed in traditional clothes-the thoub and the abaya. However you will also be perfectly welcome in slacks and a nice shirt or decent length skirt or dress.

Ras Al Nasaa: Chornicle evenings with sheesha (nargile)
  • Tip Rating:
  • Nice place, very good atmosphere, place and lights. local families. Evening place so arrive early, seems all place close at 24. Especially nargile (fruit tasted or regular tobacco smoke passing through water from a special coal heated aparatus ) better known as sheesha was the best in town. Actually i do not smoke, but the smell was soo good, i tried and liked it actually. The thing about meals; they are no better than ordinary, and can be said as poor. Do not order fries. My best choice recommendation Tea with mint, and apple sheesha.

casual clothing, keep in mind, its a family place of local qatari.

    The Waterhole
  • Tip Rating:
  • The Waterhole at the Sheraton is your typical Hotel Bar. It's a place to get a drink or two, and listen to the 'house band'. "Angel Street" is a philipina lip-synch band that entertains nightly.

    Garveys
  • Tip Rating:
  • Garveys is the name of a 'European Family Club.' They've got a pool, gym, squash courts and a pool room. But what's the real draw here?? Well, the PUB of course! They have a liquour permit here, and you may drink here if you are a member. It's an expatriot bar, but other 'foreigners' can join for the day for 20QR. They have Guinness on tap, and plenty of Belgian Weissenbier. They also have a nice pub menu. I tried a grilled steak with mushroom sauce and chips.

    Doha's Club Location
I didn't really have a chance to go out at night. But I heard that it's off the hook. All the Clubs and bars are located in major hotels. If you have a chance to explore nightlife in Qatar you can tell me how it is.
