I think this is a chain restaurant; located inside the Carefours Mall. I saw another from from the car on Ali Bin Abdullah Street. We ordered some chicken that comes on a hanging skewer contraption. It really was quite delicious. It's a bit of a gimmick, but the food was great. Leave a Comment

by travelmad478 I have never seen such a profusion of Western chains--mostly American, but some from other nations as well--in a foreign city. It's kind of depressing to think that the Qatari population is viewing American culture almost exclusively via places like Hardee's and Ponderosa. Leave a Comment Theme: Eclectic/International

by frankcanfly I grabbed a bag of small Samoosa's at this roadside shack....
The Samoosa's were pretty good, but much smaller than the Indian ones that I'm used to, but packed full of flavor! The decoration is warm and welcoming. The service is wonderful, as is the food. Most of the time it is not necessary to reserve in advance.

We had read about this restaurant specialising in seafood in many guidebooks - and failed to find it. The outdated information we had, said it was located in boats near the dhow harbour... of course when we went there, we were told that the restaurant had clsoed down. The following nights, as we were walking around souk wakiff with our local friends, we saw a restaurant there bearing the same name... the following evening, we went back for dinner. The good thing about Al badar is that you can choose the exact "piece" of fish that you want, as well as the vegetables. And then you pick your favourite way of cooking it. Beware: waiters seem to think that everyone prefers their fish fried and with a sauce... Be clear when you order if you want it differently.
A delightful dinner. We had an olive salad with pomegranade juice and then the freshest red snapper you can imagine. Delicious - though it took some effort to persuade the waiter that we wanted it simply steamed - no sauce, no nothing. We also chose some king prawns - once again it took us time to have them simply grilled... unfortunately they were grilled for too long, so they turned out to be a bit chewy... though not bad. Our dinner at the Assaha Restaurant was the worst dining experience that we have had thus far since living in Doha for 6 months. My in-laws visited with us for 3 weeks, and we ate at many fantastic restaurants. Unfortunately, this was just an awful experience. The atmosphere looked wonderful from the photo and description provided in the Marhaba book and we were eager to give Assaha a try, much to our disappointment, it will be our first and last time we go. Upon our arrival, despite having reservations, they ushered us to the upstairs which lacks in ambience in comparison to the downstairs. The waiter was rude and offended when we asked a few questions about the menu, and he was unable to give a response that showed he didn't speak English very well. Of course, that is fine, we don't expect our waiters to speak English, but he was offended when asked if he understood stating that of course he spoke English. The result was that my father in law who is a vegetarian ended up with a dish that contained sausage, although we tried to make it as clear as possible that he didn't eat meat. Our waiter assured us when ordering that there was no meat in the dish. My meal was not the dish I ordered, and the appetizer was also not what we ordered. The food was bland and less than impressive- and not what we selected from the menu. We did our best to explain this to our waiter in a patient and kind manner, but his response was rude and arrogant and we never got an apology, just a scowl. We are pleasant people, but the reception and treatment we received was terrible. We came to te conclusion that they must not like Westerners at this restaurant. I would strongly advise a different restaurant.
Four of us dined at this restaurant, and we were all unhappy with our meals. Leave a Comment

Beirut Restaurant (Electric street) is a non pretentious, male only, ALWAYS busy establishment where one can get simple but delicious HUMMOUS bil ZEIT and Khoobus ( "Aysh) bread as well as a plethora of other simple snack foods in the middle of the night with your local buddies after a night out. falafel, different grilled meat sandwiches, salads, etc. ( served on metal plates - sometimes clean sometimes semi-clean) I remember in the WC by the wash basin, after washing your hands there would be a big box of waxy paper "towels" to "dry?" your hands- and bumping and pushing your way out of the door back to your seat ( again dodging many exotic looking guys standing around) there were at times 5 to 6 guys around a small table sharing things in the middle of the table ( I was usually one of those noisy ones at the table too!- sometimes I was clumsy and would drop my metal plate on the floor adding to the rucous in stereophonic sound!) The place is hopping, noisy and a place you will never forget!
