The Thai Noodles Restaurant is a great little place that is very popular, mostly with the Asian expat community. The food is good and the prices are very cheap. There is a wide selection of dishes to choose from on the menu. Open daily from 8am to 11pm. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner served.
Favorite Dish: The cashew chicken with vegetables (16 riyals), and the garlic seafood (18 riyals). The canned coconut juice (4 riyals) is nice too.

Nando's is a chain of restaurants that specialise in Portuguese chicken flavoured with peri-peri sauce. They have branches in quite a few different countries, so maybe you know of them already, but the first time I ate Nando's was in Doha. They prepare chicken in several different ways, and you can choose the degree of spicyness you want, or if you don't want spicy at all you can get the lemon & herb flavour. They also have a few vegetarian options.
The price is not much more than what you would pay at a fast food chain, but the quality of the service and the food is much better. Their peri-peri sauces can also be found in supermarkets all over Doha.
Favorite Dish: I can recommend either the chicken burger or the chicken pita. Their fries are also very good.

Al Bandar is actually a set of three restaurants, which are in three buildings right next to each other, all of which are shaped like dhows, the traditional wooden fishing boats seen in the harbour nearby. One restaurant serves seafood, another Middle Eastern food, and the third one serves Indian. The good thing about it, though, is that you may order from any of the three menus no matter which building you are seated in, and the waiter will take the order to the appropriate kitchen. There is also seating outside with a view over the bay, which is nice when it's not too hot out.
Favorite Dish: I recommend the Al Bandar Curry (40 riyals) with chicken. There is also a set meal for 65 riyals that is listed on the Middle Eastern menu. The main dish varies according to the day of the week; it includes soup, salad bar, drink, and dessert. The salad bar also seems to be included when you order one of the Indian dishes, such as the Al Bandar curry

Located at City Centre's Food Court, KUDU is a fastfood chain serving Sandwiches (Chicken, Turkey or Beef). I tried the store for a change.
Favorite Dish: Chicken Kudu. I have no other choice because I am limiting my intake of beef. Just enough for one person especially those on diet.

This modern restaurant, with its minimalist decor and funky but impractically-designed menus is very chic, and maybe a bit too pretentious. It's the kind of place where the waiter unfolds your napkin and places it in your lap for you. This is not generally my style, but I went there because I love sushi, and as far as I know it's the only place in Doha that serves it. There's a sushi bar in the centre of the restaurant with a Japanese sushi chef who knows what he's doing. If you're not into raw fish you can go for the california maki roll, or there are also plenty of non-sushi items on the menu. The service was very good, and they even brought us a bite-sized appetizer and a tiny cheesecake dessert served in a shot glass on the house. Unlimited bread was also on offer. A service charge of 10% is added to the bill.

This beautiful building set right on Doha Bay is built in a traditional architectural style, complete with a wind tower (a way of cooling the buildings before the invention of air conditioning). A hotel is being built next door in the same style. They have a full menu of Middle Eastern food, but they also serve drinks and sheesha so it's a great place just to come relax with a smoke and a coffee or light snack in the afternoons. There is a QR 25 minimum per person.

The food taste almost an authentic Thai (as evaluated by my friend Pat who stayed in Thailand for 6 months).
The place is quite small however it is always jampacked during Thursdays and Fridays.
Favorite Dish: Shrimp roll

This Lebanese restaurant is well-established in Beirut and recently opened a branch in Doha in early 2006. The ambience is great with waiters in traditional dress, collections of coins from various countries underneath the glass tabletops, decorated swords and muscats hanging on the walls, and beautiful stone masonry with elegant carvings.
The menu is fairly extensive, encompassing both standard Lebanese fare and Italian and other Western dishes. A less extensive menu is available for takeout, and they offer free delivery.
Sheesha is also available here.
As everywhere in Doha, there is construction all around, but there is valet parking so you don't need to worry about finding a place to park; just drive straight up to the entrance and an attendant will meet you.
The website seems to apply mainly to the Beirut location, but the menu is the same, although the prices aren't given in Qatari riyals on the website.
Favorite Dish: I had the smoked salmon, which was quite nice and comes with toast and garlic paste. We also had a wonderful appetizer; I'm not sure what it was called but it was a hot dish of I think eggplant (aubergine) with chick peas and pine nuts.
The fruit cocktail called "Flamingo" is also excellent.
