Logo by ElCidRugger In my humble opinion, the finest airline country in the world. I have never been as pampered in coach as I have been with Qatar Airways. Everything from the free travel kit to the unlimited drinks was a refreshing change from the smelly carcass that is Delta service. The stewardesses were beaming and their uniforms were clean and well kept. The planes were in pristine condition as well. If you fly into Doha, do yourself a favor and fly Qatar Airways. Doha Round-About by jgacis When driving a car in Doha, just remember that some traffic intersections don't use lights. Round-abouts are intersections that flow in a counter-clockwise fashion. They are usually distinguishable by its circular design and marked by a statue or monument of interest. When entering a round-about intersection, remember that all traffic is counter-clockwise. You may enter on the left or right lane, with slower traffic to the right. All exits are right turns, with slower traffic to the right. Be careful of other drivers and go with the flow. Don't drive too cautiously since most motorists may drive at a faster pace. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Decoration or protection? by bpwillet I would be inclinded to write about the driving in Doha as one of the dangers of the city. But once you get used to it, it really isn't that bad. But you must not move your car if you are in an accident and you will have to pay for your ticket from the police (about 30QR). But if you are like this gentleman, you may just cause an accident or at least turn some heads! Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

One of the many roundabouts in Doha by bpwillet The traffic around and in the downtown area of Doha can be quite nerve racking. Take the mind set that rules of the road do not apply. You will see motorists who missed their turn going the opposite direction against the flow of traffic. Sometimes on the shoulder, sometimes not. Just be always aware of your surroundings and of everyone else. Lanes do not seem to matter much and if it is convenient for a local to pull over they will-no matter where they are in the road. Also heavy trucks will not drive in fog. If they believe it is foggy they will stop where they are and wait. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

Doha taxi by ElCidRugger Really and truly the best way to get around Doha is to hire a taxi. These guys are everywhere and fairly cheap. Fellow Americans, I don't reccomend you drive here unless you have lived overseas and know how to drive. Yes, I'm serious. Americans do not know how to drive. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

This convenient airport is located nearly right downtown! But it looks like they're filling-in some open water to the east in the shape of a runway..... Doha is the base/hub of Qatar airways, and offers frequent direct flights to many international destinations throughout Asia, Africa and Europe. They have been rated one of the best airlines in the world. The website has a great interactive route map. Leave a Comment

Taxis are relatively cheap in Doha, most likely due to government sponsorship, and the fact that gasoline is so cheap. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor Home

I just thought that I should share this with everyone. If possible, don't fly with Qatar Airways. I had to fly Qatar Airways from London to Kuala Lumpur for a friends wedding as this was the cheapest option by about £200. After the experience, I think next time I will opt to pay the extra £200 and get a more expensive flight. Qatar Airways is advertised as a 5star airline. I don't know how these ratings are given out for airlines but I definitely disagree. I am used to flying with Singapore Airlines and I think the Qatar is definitely not in the same class. One example is that when food was served, the passenger in front was reclined. Normally on Singapore Airlines, all passengers are asked to put the seats up during meal time...nevertheless, that wasn't what astounded me. When we asked the flight attendant to request the passenger in front to put his seat up, we were flatly told, 'No, you ask him yourself...sir'. WHAT THE *&^%!?! I rest my case. Theme: Airplane

Qatar Airways promotes itself as the world’s ‘Only 5 Star Airline’. They must be the only ones to believe that rubbish. My first flight with tem was on a plane that looked like it had been decorated to look like a bad message parlour/brothel. The seats were poorly covered; amenities poor and the staff looked bored or were extremely indifferent. I would not have given it anything but a 2.5 star rating. Free drinks had to be coerced out of the staff who acted like they were the ones paying for them. The TV screen had a couple of channels that could not be stopped or paused like on GOOD AIRLINES. And their prices can be shocking. Their organisation on the Ground during a transfer to Yemen was scary. The flight to Yemen was, in my experienced opinion, unsafe. The staff could not control a large group of women and seating was thrown into chaos. The crew did not have a good understanding of English and spoke no Arabic. Arguments broke out among passengers because everyone was in the wrong seat and many would not sit down. We were delayed ON THE PLANE by 1 hour because of this. They disregarded many sections of the safety briefing due to time and seeming lack of training. Shocking. Movies? None. Drinks? 1 and that was trouble to get. I have some peanuts thrown at me and the whole flight was like a zoo. Passengers used mobiles actively the whole flight and no staff member did anything about it. 5 Star Airline? No. 5 Ring Circus and total rip-off? Yes. Qatar Airways. Do not fly them. Fly Emirates. Wish I had. Leave a Comment

There is a bus from Saudi to Qatar and provided you are from one of the 33 countries on the Qatar list, you can get a visa at the border - despite claims by a leading guidebook saying otherwise. The cost of the trip from Hofuf to Doha is 80 SAR's Leave a Comment Theme: Bus
