Tour guide to Khor Al Udeid" / The Inland Sea via fishing port of Al Wakra.

At the southeast tip of Qatar, the sea pierces through the land to dig a long channel of water into the desert island. For this reason the site is called "Khor Al Udeid" or The Inland Sea. Khor when translated from Arabic to English means Inlet and if one were to visit the site one would see exactly why it is called so, for the sea first surges through the land to divide Saudi Arabia from Qatar and then curves to create a shallow lake.

Also truly amazing are the pink cliffs that rise on the Saudi side of the inlet and the pure white dunes that line the Qatari side.
Of course at first one may feel that one is seeing a mirage; but on closer observation you will find that the beauty you see is not merely an imagination on your part but definitely the real thing.

Since the inlet lies deep in the land of Qatar; so far it remains untouched by civilization. You may reach the sea either by a vehicle or by boat and if you wish to stay overnight you are only allowed to camp out there. You see, the people of Qatar wish to keep the site untouched and preserve its beauty.

Khor Al Udeid heads the list of tourist sites in Qatar and most tourists will ensure that they visit the sea. Most travel agents and hotels organise trips to the sea and also provide tourists with the necessary equipment like experienced drivers, food, tents, water etc.

On the way to Khor Al Udeid you will drive through the fishing port of Al Wakrah. A beautiful little port one would see small tiny white mosques and few beautiful old houses. This port was once the main center for pearling; today though the waterfront and the part of the port have been sanded up leaving us with just a hint of what used to be.

Try getting a grib to a 4x4 car and take a trip south towards Messaieed area. Once you go off the road, you'll witness the most beautiful scenery where the sea water penetrates the desert to get beautiful views.

A trip to the inland sea with beatuyfull countryside.
There you have desert like in a movie, with endless sand dunes. At the end of the trip you see an arm of the arabian gulf going through the dessert like a fata morgana.
Did you ever skiing on a sand dune? There you can!
