The new bus fleet by Mowasalat

Contrary to what you might have heard, Qatar does indeed have a public transport system. The new bus service started in October 2005 and is operated by a government-owned company called Mowalsalat, which also owns all the new bluish-silver taxis operating around town. The bus fare is QR 2 for rides in Doha, and up to QR 7 for inter-city buses. The Central Bus Terminus is located near the Alfardan Centre on Grand Hamad Street. Marhaba magazine produces a map which indicates the bus routes; the Mowasalat website is suprisingly unhelpful in this regard.

Doha International Airport is the main hub for the national Carrier Qatar Airways, which has daily direct flights (7hrs) to London and several direct flight per week for Paris, Milan, Rome, Frankfurt, Munich, Cairo, Kuwait, Jeddah, Tehran, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, New Delhi, Mumbai (Bombay), Dhaka, Jakarta, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, etc. etc.

PIA, British Airways, KLM, Emirates, Egypt Air, Kuwait Airways, Gulf Air, Saudi Arabian Airline, Indian Airline, Thai Airways and other international airlines operate to Doha every week.

I really love this picture. I took this picture from inside my plane (Qatar Airways) and i saw a Kuwait Airways plane landing and Qatar Airways plane taking-off from Doha Intl. airport. Isn't it beautiful ?

In the recent years as Qatar has developed significantly, Doha as being the capital has been the main center for all the development projects.

The new Doha International Airport is 2.5 Kms away from the City Center and it receives many international flights daily from all major destination in Europe, Asia and America. The interesting thing is that it is the Only Airport in the whole country !

Please note that there is No Departure Tax for Qatar !For any flight enquiries you can dial the airport's phone number: +974-4656666. The flights of Qatar Airways arrive here usually on-time but i would recommend you to call enquiry before going the airport either for catching your next flight or going to receive anyone.

Airline Meal !

My flight from Karachi, Pakistan to Doha, Qatar was just around 2 hrs. Most of the big airlines Do Not serve you proper food for such a short flight ! but Qatar Airways not even served food but a proper meal ! Here you can see in the picture what a wonderful tray they provided to me as a economy class passenger on a 2 hrs flight ;-) hehehe... Believe me ! it was a good experience to fly with them and i am looking forward it again InshAllah.

Qatar is a small country with just 744,000 population. Knowing this the quality of their airline and its service is brilliant ! Their aircrafts are new and in excellent form mashAllah. The seats are comfortable and even the seating configration and spacing is okay. I flew Economy class but i never felt as if i am a typical economy class passenger. I must say that this airline has got everything to be a high standard airline in the years to follow. Well done Qatar Airways !

To date there are no public buses in Doha. Taxis are the standard mode of transportation in town, and are quite cheap. To put 'cheap' in perspective, taxis in Saudi Arabia are twice as expensive. All taxis have meters which usually work. The drivers are generally honest and you may even negotiate a better fare, once you get to know the average local prices. After landing in Qatar.

It was absolutely smooth landing on Doha Airport. It was a good feeling to be in a new country and among new people. The first impression was okay. But when i saw uncountable U.S. Army war planes, mostly C130's standing on the other side of the airport, I was feeling as if i have landed on Baghdad Airport ;-) It was good that the plane was not full. I had more space for myself in the plane ;-) so there was a small que for getting into the bus which took us from the plane to the main airport building and away from the sight of U.S Military aircrafts.

Best Way to get into Qatar is by plane unless you want to drive through Saudi Arabia to reach there by car. Most airlines comes into Qatar like KLM, British Airways, Emirates, Kuwait Airways, Air India, Egypt Air,Gulf Air and of course Qatar Airways.
Taxis are fairly cheap but they have a day time and night tarrif (double the day rate). You can always rent a car but in this case read the danger section :)
