Saudi Arabia is not a place for everyone, it can be down right b-o-r-i-n-g for the expat and after awhile they get a bit sick of seeing black and white day in, day out. Living in Al Khobar does have one great perk...... we are so close to the Kingdom of Bahrain and many of us have multiple-exit re entry Visa's which allow us to come and go from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Bahrain as often as we like if we pay 500 riyals for 6 months worth of trips and then apply for another visa before it expires. Bahrain is still an Arab country yes, but it has less restrictions. It doesn't close it's shops when it is prayer time, woman and men can sit together without having to worry about Family and Singles sections (see my tip in my Saudi pages), we can have an alcoholic drink if we want to, we can also see a movie too and basically be a little bit free for a change. I reccomend this to anyone coming out here to get a Multiple Visa just to escape from here once in awhile, it can get just that little bit too much at times. Trust me it will be worth the 500 riyals :+)
Take a walk along the neatly paved Corniche with nicely designed tiles and a joggers track of more than a thousand metres and a small open air gymnasium too at one end of the track!!! The water is not clean and diving or swimming is prohibited at this stony beach. You will even find a few cats drinking the salty water here!!! And a few seagulls and other birds too sometimes!!! A lot of people bring their fishing rods and try their luck at fishing too!!! Most people come for a walk here and enjoy the fresh air!!!
