Like most foreigners, I lived on a compound. The houses on my compound were based on traditional Arab architecture, which means there are no windows that people outside can see, and inside you need artificial light day and night. This is because the two main priorities in Saudi houses are total privacy and protection from the sun.
There is central airconditioning and all utilities are paid for by the employer. Within the walls there are yards where you can keep cactii gardens and hold barbecues. These are separated from the main living quarters by sliding glass doors. As in nearly all Saudi homes, there are two bathrooms: one male and one female.

There are a lot of dogs in Aramco's Dhahran Community. Although it is not of the Saudi Culture to have a dog for a pet, there are a lot of people from other cultures here that do have pets. There are plenty of places to walk your pet here. But as a courtesy to others you should clean up after your pet. Throughout the main walking areas you will find pet waste disposal stations that Aramco has provided for this. Please use them.

Aramco's Dhahran Community has water cooler's all throughout their community. Especially around the main road areas, the walking trails, parks, and sports facilities. This is very nice and makes things much more enjoyable. Usually you will find a paper cup dispenser there, but it is always nice to have something incase it is empty. We generally keep water bottles with us anyway, and just refill those. We have never come across and empty one, and the water is always nice and cold!

OK, OK, I said take only what you can eat. However, it's my birthday so besides the grills, I need ingredients for sweet & sour, fried, and sinigang (sour fish soup), hehehe.
But promise, this is my very last pic on spear-fishing. I hate it, really.

The Aramco Community in Dhahran is home to numerous Date Palms. You will see them everywhere, and they yield quite a crop of dates each year! It is amazing how many are here.

Believe me I don't do this anymore. But at the time I'm so hungry that a fresh grilled grouper looks tasty. By the way, take only what you can eat, OK?
