I think it is a wonderful idea to see how the people of the city of Qatif celebrate the first ten days of Moharam.
The event celebrated to recall the sad event of grandson of Islam prophet death some 1300 years ago.
In the first ten days of the month of Muharram, the first month in the Islamic calendar, Qatif turns to be a places of mourning.
The public squares to mark this sad anniversary, the walls will be totally black.
Men, Women and even kids will particpate through attending lectures and religious rituals express sadness.
I still believe its good event to see, and to expereice as its very deep inside people's heart and they proud to express their sad feelings in public.
Same cermoney can be seen in Iran, Iran, Kuwait, Lebanon, Bahrain, Pakistan, India, and many other countries.

Its one of oldest but still becoming more popular by time as an annual festival in Sanabis town, east of Tarout Island. People celebrated this event since so so long year ago. The even take place in Eid Al Adha, or the Eid of pilgrimage.
The cermoney is so simple, few days before the Eid, all families would plant some types of herbs in small baskets, and they make a basket for each child in the family.
All the family, especially the kids and their mothers, would go to the sea side or Al Seef, to say some songs and good wishes for the belove onse to come back from bligramage in Mecca before they throw these little baskets to the sea water.

The event came back to the people focus in Sanabic two years ago, and became well organized last year where people managed painting games for the little kids and even adults.

The even is lovely and I recommend that you come to see it this year. remember it happens in tenth of Du Al huja, the month number 12 in the Islamic Calender.

Little girl with her candies and mixed nuts packs

Qatifi people celebrate what locally called Krakshoon or Qerqiaan where kids wear very beautiful dress especially young ladies.
The celebrations take place twice a year, first in mid of Shaban, the eighth month of Islamic Calander, and the second take place in mid of Ramdan, the fasting month for Muslims.
The celebration mainly for the brithday of two grandsons of prophet of Islam, but I believe its now celebrated in many countries around the Arabian Gulf without linking it to the birthday events.
Kids wear nice dresses, and go from door to door to collect candies and other stuff including little packs full of candies and mixed nuts. and put them in big case they carry with them
You will meet adults greeting each others in the streets, or even stoping by to allocate candies on the passing by cars.
The celebration take place in evenings before the day number 15 of each Shaban and Ramdan.
