Favorite thing: The above aspects encouraged the construction of huge office buildings to absorb the great rush for the city centers. Moreover, the limited small areas of lands available in city centers led to the construction of high buildings without conversion to nearby streets and using new system exclusively to upper stories since buildings in those times depended on natural sunlight and ventilation.
Favorite thing: The city center hence became a point of attraction for business activities due to availability of service facilities like post offices, banks, lawyers, suppliers, advertising agencies, clubs and restaurants which were only few steps away. This diversified environment also helped businessmen to exchange ideas and information with the customers owing to their continuous presence in the city center. The existence of a number of companies, agencies and establishments under one roof or n nearby buildings has boosted commercial business, where new concepts flourished in fertile soil.

The changes in the economic and social environment in both Europe and America in the late nineteenth century and early twentieth century, along with the development in different technologies increased the need for offices especially in the city centers. Where services are distributed and become varied. The city center started to acquire vividness with the lively commercial activities. As a result the number of office buildings increased rapidly. They were constructed of steel or concrete which became a new style for building.
Favorite thing: Such buildings hardly developed in Europe until the modern Rennaisance with emergence of banks and modern capitalism. This gave rise to the establishment of business centers in the main cities of Europe.
The rise of office buildings:
The idea of finding a place confined to office work has existed long ago. Such places were a number of rooms attached to King's or Sultan's Palaces used for the registration and recording of properties and money as well as for following up the affairs of the state. With the urban development, and the diversity of business in the state these jobs were separated and transferred into new independent buildings. Meanwhile in early Arabian State, these rooms were built adjacent to major mosques as well as to the palaces of the caliphs and rulers.
Favorite thing: Office buildings are the buildings that provide suitable environment for office work. They are not used for displaying commodities like big shops nor for manufacturing products like in factories. These buildings are utilized as headquarters for commercial establishments and companies, government departments, lawyers or consultancy offices, etc.

The city of Jeddah, being one of the largest commercial business centers in the Kingdom had the office buildings played a prominent role in forming its character as a distinguished commercial city.
Favorite thing: Commercial cities are usually characterized by buildings. The styles of these buildings give the city a unique character. The office buildings with their extreme heights, from and shape an individual skyline for any commercial city.
Favorite thing: Since Jeddah has the substantial elements of commercial business which attract capital investments, it has therefore been and will be experiencing developments in office buildings at various levels.
