You're in Jiddah, and you want some homegrown fast food, where do you go? The Al Baik chain of outlets definitely; the saudis' are crazy about it, and once you've tried it, you'll realize why.
There usually is ample parking space out front. The interiors are very clean and hygienic [the cleaning men are at it, scrubbing floors and shining bathrooms 24/7] and the general ambience is relaxed, with crowd ranging from executives in their ties, egyptians screaming over their phones, saudi, lebanese, palestinian, syrian kids upto their usual pranks and the odd western or asian group deep in discussion.
The speed of service is dependent on the amount of customers at the moment when you order [I have once waited for almost 30 mins for my order to come through when the place was packed]. However I have to commend the pace at which the service is rendered; and always with a smile! I once remember asking for some sauce and napkins and being given a whole lot more than I wanted. When I just took a select few, I was smilingly told by my attendant, 'Al Baik is the best. We give you more than you want. Tell everyone this.' Very positive attitude to work I have to admit.
Warning: Times to watch out for is usually after Isha or the late evening prayers, when the crowds flock to their outlets (at least the one near Sulaimaniyah). It's a little funny to see all the Saudi's in their white dishdashas / thobes running to be first in line as soon as the doors are opened. It is true though that Al Baik enjoys a good amount of crowd at pretty much all times.
Their outlets are currently located in Jiddah, Madinah and Mecca. There's rumours about how the proprieter tried to open in Riyadh too, but came under resistance from the officials who did not want any competition to their own outlets. There is an Al Baik chain in Cairo - Egypt too, for those of you who can't get to Saudi.
Definately one of my top 10 recommended Jiddah restaurants.
Favorite Dish: Especially recommended is the mouth watering spicy chicken broast (dipped in garlic sauce) and the shrimps (with coctail sauce). The sauces are specials made to order by Al Baik. Their dishes are accompanied by fresh french fries and buns.
4 pieces chicken (+ spicy) - SR 10
8 pieces chicken (+ spicy) - SR 19
8 pieces chicken nuggets - SR 10
Shrimps - SR 17
Jumbo shrimps - SR 27
Juice / Beer - SR 2
Coleslaw - SR 3
plus an assorted list of sandwiches, shawermas and hummus. Extra helping of buns can be got for .50 halalas
Even their coke cans have the chicken logo of Al Baik printed onto it.
I never really noticed a family room nor once have seen a woman in any of these outlets. Women have been given a facility of ordering from a separate window at the side.

Quite the most popular local fast food
in the whole city. There are 20 branches in
Jeddah and one branch in Makkah that’s it.
This is the local McDonalds of Jeddah ;o).
They are prohibited to open anywhere around
the kingdom nor the world. People from
neighboring cities come to Jeddah just to
order the best fast food ever. Once you try
their chicken, Shrimp, Garlic sauce and the
French fraise you will understand why.
Favorite Dish: Shrimp and the garlic sauce.

Al Baik is a locally owned fast food chain in Jeddah. There are other branches in Makkah and Medina, but none in Riyadh.
They basically serve chicken, chips and shrimp. All is really fresh and tastes yum!
No matter what time I go there whether it's 1500 or 0200 it always seems to be packed full of people, yet you still get service with a smile within 5 minutes, and your order never seems to take more than 10 minutes to be ready.
Some of the branches have a family section - Khalediyah has a big one.
Note though that the prices were slightly increased in May 2007, but its still great value for money!!
Favorite Dish: Its a toss up between spicy chicken nuggets (come in two different sizes, with french fries, garlic dipping sauce and a warm sesame seed bun) and jumbo shrimp combo (comes with 2 pottles of coleslaw, french fries, a sesame bun and cocktail sauce).

this is the restuarant i ever revere:D it's got all the qualities anyone can ever enjoy and look for in food; lavishly tasty, surprisingly affordable and friendly 'generous' staff ever.
it mainly serves take-away orders but there's usually an eat-in section that accommodates only men, in big branches only.
the popular food product that has boosted up the reputation of this saudi-owned chain of al-Baik restaurant is their roasted chicken with chips and garlic sauce. it's usually served as either half chicken or whole chicken. i absolutely love the skin.
there're other products like spicy chicken, chicken wraps and fillet and things i'm not aware of.
it's the best deal for your pocket, and everyone can just pass by and get some if you're in a chickeny mood today.
the speed of their service is immense; max 15 min unless on occasions like ramadan and hajj. and if you need more garlic sauce as it comes in separate little containers, you can always ask for more garlic and more bread and the staff will ALWAYS give you what you need. such well-managed business;^)
this restaurant can be found literally anywhere you go
Favorite Dish: the regular chicken of course;^)

Chicken al-Baik is a well known Fried Chicken chain in Saudi Arabia. I had never heard of it, and was satisfied with eating halal KFC. However, my uncle introduced me to the chicken from al-Baik, and KFC cannot compare. The chicken is excellent, juicy, crispy, and the garlic sauce is magnificent.
Its no surprise to see extremely long lines in Al-Baik restaurants.
Favorite Dish: Fried Chicken with Garlic Sauce

I grew up in Jeddah from '82-'96. My favorite food was the Broast / Al-Baik my dad would bring home afterwork. That chicken is the best in the world and the GARLIC SAUCE is also excellent. My family has tried to recreate both since we moved, but to no avail. A family friend who still lived there brought me some here where I live a few years ago. Even though it was 2 days old and cold, I practically inhaled it. Al-Baik should open up stores around the world.
P.S. I put "about average" down there compared to other Jeddah restaurants because it was SO INEXPENSIVE THERE. Sodas were, converted, 25 US cents.
Favorite Dish: I GET THE CHICKEN (DRUMSTICKS AND THIGHS), BREAD, FRIES, GARLIC SAUCE. The chicken is juicy inside yet crispy on the outside. KFC's Crispy pales in comparison. The fries are okay. Definitely edible, but not what I crave. The sesame buns I didn' t start eating until I was about 12 because as a kid, I wanted to leave room for more chicken and garlic sauce. But I started to make these garlic sauce, chicken, and fries sandwiches. This place is definitely not for the health-conscious.

Saudi Arabia obviously sells all Halal items, but Al Baik is an exception .Al Baik used to be Halal pre 1997 when it was owned by a Palestenian businessman -the tycoon who started this business.Unfortunately it was taken over by a Saudi prince whom I dont want to name in 1996.I dont want to say anything further but you may be wondering where the raw chicken comes from.It used to come from Al Fakieh poultry farms before 1996 ,from 1996 to 1997 it came from South Africa(proved Halal)and from 1997 onwards it started to come from France(nobody was able to prove that the chicken was Halal until date) .
Although the chicken is well tasty and tempting to eat,I would not if I were you.
Favorite Dish: Used to be half spicy chicken with coleslaw.

Albaik have brought a hopeless franchise in pakistan. The service it is providing in pakistan is really poor and the qauality standard is unimaginable, the nuggets Albaik pakistan is providing is hopeless. Albaik in pakistan is purshasing its nuggets from a local company in pakistan named "MON SALWA". THE CHICKEN they are selling is half cooked and it does not taste like albaik jeddah or madina. MACDONALD, KFC AND PIZZAHUT have built great market reputation in pakistan and are serving millions of customers in pakistan daily.
Favorite Dish: Albaik is a well reputed food restaurant in middles east it provide chicken and nuggets with great taste which is better than Burger King chicken and KFC'S chicken.
