King Abdul Aziz University, Jiddah
In fact the number of graduates from regular programs of study reached tens of thousands of students. On the other hand, graduates of the post-graduate programs amounted to hundreds of male and female students.
The university has played an outstanding role in promotion of scientific, social and cultural awareness. Likewise its research, seminars, and scientific programs have had a vehement impact on the tendency to meet needs of the society availing the various development plans of the country of the national qualified manpower.
The university is indeed considered the fortune of higher education for the Saudi girls. The girl section was opened simultaneously with the early establishment of the university. Presently this section has 15.000 female students regular and otherwise. This number is fairly at 43 percent of the total. Yet regular female are in the range of 47 percent of the total regular students.
The university has currently ten faculties as follows: Economics and Administration, Humanities, Science, Engineering, Medicine, Earth Science, Marine Science, Meteorology, Environmental and Agriculture of Arid Lands, Dentistry and Education (the latter taking Madinah for its campus).
Presently total number of male and female students both regular and affiliated is 35.000. meanwhile, faculties have increased to result in a homogeneous blend of scientific, technological, humanity, and educational specialties.
In 1971, however the university was changed into a governmental institution. In a very short period afterwards, KAAU has become a university of considerable scientific reputation both in the Kingdom and abroad. The university had undergone on unprecedented development during the last decade.
KAAU has four independent deanships in addition to centers for scientific research and supporting educational services.
Faculty of Economics and Administration was the first one to be established in 1968, then followed by the faculty of the Arts and Human Studies.
KAAU was established in 1967 as private institute in its early history, KAAU commenced with acceptance of 68 male and female students in the preliminary class.
