    The university has currently ten faculties as follows: Economics and Administration, Humanities, Science, Engineering, Medicine, Earth Science, Marine Science, Meteorology, Environmental and Agriculture of Arid Lands, Dentistry and Education (the latter taking Madinah for its campus).

    In 1971, however the university was changed into a governmental institution. In a very short period afterwards, KAAU has become a university of considerable scientific reputation both in the Kingdom and abroad. The university had undergone on unprecedented development during the last decade.

    The university is indeed considered the fortune of higher education for the Saudi girls. The girl section was opened simultaneously with the early establishment of the university. Presently this section has 15.000 female students regular and otherwise. This number is fairly at 43 percent of the total. Yet regular female are in the range of 47 percent of the total regular students.
