Yanbu was the site of a terrorist attack in 2004 that killed several Americna workers. However it is now pretty safe there and has a better local reputation security-wise than either Jeddah or Riyadh. But if you are a westerner living there, you should make sure your company houses you on a fortified and defended compound, like The Cove.
