  • al Mamlaka Shopping Mall - the Kingdom: Mamlakat al Mara'ah - Ladies' Kingdom

by Manyana Written Mar 10, 2008

i have been to this mall on my last trip as if it was my first time there ever! my colleague took me to the lady-only floor of this mall, which is exlusively run by women staff, and attended by women customers. there are cafes and restaurants for women only.

this comes as a reaction to women's need for privacy from men's 'intrusion'. since women in saudi are expected to cover their head and sometimes their face, this shopping mall gives them more freedom to do their shopping more freely.

the shopping mall consists of 4 floors; one is for women only. the rest of the building is just giantic and probably more than 60 floors. you can see it from the airplane!

What to buy: all major brands from United Colours of Benetton to Georgio Armani
    beauty salons

What to pay: average to expensive

Mosque Prayer Times: Shopping In Riyadh

by Dthey Written Feb 4, 2008

    3.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

When shopping, you must consider prayer times, aka Sallah, for the reason that when the muezzin's call to prayer from the loudspeakers of every mosque, all business stops.

If you are shopping and happen to be in a boutique, you will be asked to leave the shop and come back after prayer time. If you are in a restaurant you may continue enjoying your meal although restaurant doors will be locked, lights turned dim and blinds or windows closed.

It is advisable to ask everything you need before all working personnel’s go out for prayer time. Also, if you are in a hurry and would not want to wait 30-45 minutes inside locked premises you must go out beforehand.

What to buy: It is best to shop after the last prayer, after you had your nice dinner, when you would not get any interruption.

    Consider Prayer Times

    Kingdom Tower: Almamlaka

    by Cielo_Algaeed Updated Sep 15, 2007

    4.5 out of 5 starsHelpfulness

It is one big shopping mall which has one floor exclusive for ladies :-)

Mostly designer and hig end shops like Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Hugo Boss, Coach, Zara, Lacoste, Nine West, Ferregamo, Burberry etc..

They were on sale during the first time i was there..so most of the ladies went gahgah over the 50-70 percent sale.

The only drawback when shopping for clothes is that they dont have fitting rooms. So, you can only try on the clothes that you bought once you're home and if it doesnt fit or doesnt look good on you...you can bring it back to them within 3 days for the exchange of goods.

Pls check the labels that says where their product was made. Some of the high end shops for wallets, bags, shoes etc are made in China. Unlike LV and Hugo Boss....you really get the worth of your money....Its made in Italy and Germany..

What to buy: Clothes, shoes, bags, jewelry, cosmetics, perfume

What to pay: as low as 50 riyals and as high as 50,000 riyals

Loving it! LV Speedy 30 Mini Lin My hubby's surprise gift! AGAIN????hehehehe
