Faisal's Finger

by Elmsaafir

South of Riyadh, there's a lush valley called Dirab. The valley has a bunch of farms, the Royal Arabian Horse Ranch, golf courses, and of course, lots of camels...About 10 km past the interchange for Riyadh (north) and Makka (southwest), turn off into the desert and drive cross country (lots of jeep/goat/camel trails) toward's the finger. You can't miss it.

Alekhdod

by redeagle

in the old days. around 15 centuries ago, the Tragedy of Alekhdod comitted.the story start with those people who were living in Najran, south of Arabia, those people decided to convert to Christianty -before Islam- but the ruler of Yemen didn't like that, so he digged in earth a huge wall-like space and flamed fire in it. he brought all those people and anyone who says I am christian will be burned in this fire.there are still some remainings for these tripes.

Deserts, Stars Home

by redeagle

You wouldn't find a really beautiful desert like the one you will find here, it is magical. imagine a night filled with bright stars in the middle of nowhere.most of saudi arabia is desert, except maybe the south-western side. But the most beautiful saharas would be north Riyadh, Najd.

Road Trip to Najran

by Canadienne

Getting out of the city and driving into the countryside presents an entirely different picture of Saudi Arabia. The roads are rougher, the landscape more varied. . .it was a memorable experience ~ one that shouldn't be missed if you have the chance.

by Dick_Loudon

Everything is off the beaten path. Even cities like Riyadh and Jeddah are pretty quiet and subdued. On the coast, places like Dharhan and ad-Damam were a little livelier but still nothing like Asia or Europe.

ABHA MOUNTAINS-Abha, the home...

by Fong-Mantus

ABHA MOUNTAINS-Abha, the home of the headquarters of the regional Governate, is located in the Asir region in the south-west of the Kingdom. Abha's position, some 7,200 feet (2,200 meters) above sea-level, gives it a relatively moderate climate. Temperatures remain within a narrower band than is the case in many other parts of the Kingdom. The Abha region also enjoys the highest level of rainfall of any part of Saudi Arabia. The natural beauty of the region and its fertility have encouraged the Saudi Arabian Government to establish a number of national parks, enabling Saudi citizens to holiday in a location of outstanding scenery and natural interest to rival anywhere abroad.

by Guardian624

The open desert. You need to go with someone experienced, or a large army to support you, as it's a very harsh environment. Except for outer space or the arctic it might be the most isolated place you'll ever be in your life. Absolutely the most amazing sunsets, starry nights, and sunrises you'll ever see.

by Vilhelm

Rent a car. You will not regret it. The traffic is something to get used to, but you will miss everything if you don't have a car. Go out, drive around. Do not leave the city that you are staying in unless you have a travel visa (yes you need one to travel within Saudi aswell)Go to the mountain village of Taif (east of Mekkah) Enjoyable day, go feed the monkeys, They'll surprize you.

by hprior

Because travel is basically restricted many travelers don't get to drive across Arabia. If they do they should try to travel up and down as many of the escarpment highways as possible. There are four. I believe they were designed by the British and built by Korea or the other way round. At any rate they are engineering fetes and some are beautiful. One has a section that goes out into mid-air, makes a u-turn and then head back into the cliff. It's really quite astounding.
