    Starbucks- Al Rashid Mall, Al

You must see the people in Ssudi Arabia. They are a very hospitable bunch of people and sometimes while I was in Starbucks if it was quiet. I would say hello to some of the woman. Some are a little shy and some do not mind talking to you at all. One day my friend Petula went to order our drinks and while I waited, I said hello to two young Saudi girls on their own. The more I talked them the more I was interested in them as people. Petula became interested too and we all chatted for quite some time about life and life in general for both expats and Saudi's (particuarly females) alike. The girls were only young and had just started their teritary education, they were sisters as we were the only four in the shop, they removed their veils and started to tell us what they were studying and how they entertained themselves in such a restrictive place.

Saudi is a melting pot filled with many different cultures and it doesn't hurt to say hello to anyone while out in the shops. One Saudi lady and I had a laugh together once in a Bookshop over this funny quote book with cute artwork. Some people can be quite rude or eye you up wanting a date handing you a little bit of paper with their phone number and name on it. It is sad but true and if you do not believe me have a read of October 2003's edition of National Geographic. I have included the link to the article below for you to read....
It is very accurate although some things are a little different in the city of Khobar but the concept is still the same!!!! Stay away from anyone wanting this kind of activity.

The Masmak Fortress is a 19th-century mud fortress at the heart of Al-Bathaa, Riyadh's old quarter.

It houses collections of traditional dress and crafts, a traditional diwan or sitting room with an open courtyard and a working well. It was extensively renovated in the 1980's and is now devoted to Abdul Aziz and his unification of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

If you look close enough , there is a hole on the wooden door , from a spear thrown by the enemy...

    Opening Hours Sat-Wed 8am-12pm & 4pm-9pm; Thu 9am-12pm;

Well its a castle like building which displays ancient artefacts and old items from yesteryear ....on the ground floor of the building you actually have a Arabian Restaurant ....you can choose to dine beside the beautiful pool ( see my Dammam page to see the graphical details ...on the roof hang a giant size Arabian lamp ( about 8 feet ) ....or dine inside anyone of the room (with different design attributed to different region of Saudi Arabia ) , well you can always dine first in Jeddah room , and the next time Riyadh room and so forth ....

when you eat or drink there , its like you are thrown back to the time of olden Arabia ...with beautiful tapestry adorning the wall , furniture that speaks marvelous Persian design ...its totally cool !

you have a few rooms dedicated to selling souvenier liek pottery, bags, incense holder, dagger, beads and many more on the second floor ...all the artefacts , old photos, are displeyed along the corridor of 2nd , 3rd and 4th floor ...

    Entrance fee SR 10.

Well its shape looks like the infamous Al Burj in Dubai . Majestically sits on the downtown of Riyadh. A glass elongated pyramid ......with a mall , hotel and luxurious reataurant...I heard you can see people perfoming Kenyan dance in the Brazilian Restaurant ( but I was thinking , why Brazilian and Kenyan ? Why not Persian , Arabian ? etc etc )

Hofuf is the main town in the al Hasa oasis about three hours south of Jubail. The area is dotted with date palm farms. The area boasts a camel market on Thursdays where one can find racing camels. On the eastern side of the oasis is Jebel Qara containing limestone caves named Ghar al Hashshab,"cave of the arrow maker". The caves are very cool and are popular in hot weather. Around the Jebel are potters making simple unglazed pottery.

This is the Dammam's Corniche ( like Esplanade ) , its along stretch of coastal areas that are lighted up by thousands of colourful lights . Since there is no night life in Saudi Arabia and no cinema as well , many families and youngsters gather at the Corniche in the weekend for picnics.

The con shape monument and the end reclaimed land which curled out to the sea like a tear drop changes colour every 10 seconds ...

Note , some areas are mean from family only . That is bachelors are not allowed there.
Part of their segregation culture ( check my customs tips for more )

Madain Saleh tombs..the Petra of Saudi Arabia

  • its a Cursed City of Tombs ..now thats scary - Saudi Arabia
its a Cursed City of Tombs
    ..now thats scary
    by kenyneo
or is it a Cursed city of Tombs . Madain means City and it means City of Saleh . Muslims are discouraged from visiting this site. So you can imagine how mysterious and eerie this place cane be ...locals said if you must go there then you must "Cry" to pay your respect or at least do a "fake cry "..

one of the most interesting archeological site of Saudi Arabia the Madain Saleh tomb is built by the Nabatean people .. who also built Petra in Jordan. . The Nabataeans became rich through their control of the incense route and their charging caravans tolls of up to 25%.

The tomb is more well preserved than Petra because the rock is harder than those in Petra. . The immense stone tombs which have made it famous were carved between 100BC and AD100 and the city itself was the second city in the Nabataean empire, after Petra in modern-day Jordan.

Great deal of bureaucratic bother and hassle can be avoided by booking a tour through the Madinah Sheraton. Both the hotel and the airport are on the outskirts of the city and so are open to non-Muslims.

You really need a vehicle to get around Madain Salah, as the distances are large and the heat extreme.

The hotel's tour is a weekend one -- covering arrival at the hotel on Wednesday evening with a slide presentation. the price of around SR700 or SR750 includes the trip to the site, two nights at the hotel, all meals from dinner on Wednesday evening to lunch on Friday and airport transfers.

Normally the hotel needs three weeks to arrange the tour, which is for groups of 10 or more and which only operate when there are enough people

  • whats the legend behind this cave ? - Saudi Arabia
    whats the legend behind
    this cave ?
    by kenyneo
the entrance to the cave is luring us in ....with her legends and untold stories ...the local call it Jebel Qara ( hill ) and the cave Ghar Hashshab. But the Filipino community identifies it as JUDAS's cave.

A search thru the Net has found no evidence of such claim, and also I couldnt find the history related to this cave. Well if anyone of you happens to know about this cave or any mention of this cave in history or Quran ..please email me !
