Flowers in the desert?Many years ago farmers built small retaining walls across the narrow wadi (valley) beds which cut into the escarpment to catch the silt washed down by the spring rains. The farms are now abandoned but the rich soil is perfect for lush growth of flowers during the spring.Witness the irises come alive with color.It is fascinating to wait and watch the iris buds open. This happens simultaneously around 1 PM on a sunny day and later on cloudy days.Arabic Proverb - No crowd waited at the gates of patience.
I found one!The year these pictures to were taken had been a very dry one even for Saudi Arabia. This meant that the iris plants were few and far between. It was funny to watch about 25 people bending over trying to find a little iris plant to watch with cameras ready to capture the moment the iris buds open.
This is the Dammam's Corniche ( like Esplanade ) , its along stretch of coastal areas that are lighted up by thousands of colourful lights . Since there is no night life in Saudi Arabia and no cinema as well , many families and youngsters gather at the Corniche in the weekend for picnics.The con shape monument and the end reclaimed land which curled out to the sea like a tear drop changes colour every 10 seconds ...Note , some areas are mean from family only . That is bachelors are not allowed there.Part of their segregation culture ( check my customs tips for more )
the green lighting it sometimes really make you feel eerie ..but because I was on a rush to visit the cave before the night falls ...it didnt occur to me that it actually looks a little eerie until I see the photos that I have taken ....
