little dissappointed when I knew that non-muslims are not allowed to visit this Holy place of Islam. I realise that the reason behind this is to prevent the Kaaba from being recaptured by non -muslims. Well there is a point there since its the holiest place for Muslims.In terms of Islamic religion, the Kaaba, the "House of Allah," is the central shrine of Islam. It is measured to be 45 feet high, 33 feet wide, and 50 feet long. It is covered with a cloth call Kiswa that is replaced every single year. The Kaaba is housed within the Masjid, under whose roof can hold a total of 1,000,000 worshippers. The current Kaaba is actually a rebuilt version of the original one. (My pic show the old Kaaba). The original one was torn down or even decayed. The materials used in the construction were salvaged from a ship which traveled all around the Red Sea, taking material to many places en route. The Black Stone, or the Kaaba stone, is set on the outside of one corner of the Kaaba is kissed by all pilgrims who can gain access to it. It is a dark, red brown, and now encased in a massive silver band. It is presumed to be of pre-Islamic origin, possibly meteoric. Myths claim that it fell from heaven, or perhaps that it was brought to earth by angels as a white stone in order to provide the cornerstone of the original Kaaba. It turned black by the impure touch of humans across the millennium. It is lovingly referred to as "the cornerstone of the House," or even the "right hand of God on earth." “Desert Roses” are crystalline assemblages of gypsum and other salts that are formed as a result of the evaporation of the inland sabkha flats which lie between the major ranges of dunes. From afar it really looks like one ! ! (the formula for desert roses is CaSO42H2O !). One of such place is very close to Abqaiq. It should be noted that the desert roses are a Saudi National treasure and should not be taken out of the country. You will be apprehended if caught doing so !!!

Hofuf is the main town in the al Hasa oasis about three hours south of Jubail. The area is dotted with date palm farms. The area boasts a camel market on Thursdays where one can find racing camels. On the eastern side of the oasis is Jebel Qara containing limestone caves named Ghar al Hashshab,"cave of the arrow maker". The caves are very cool and are popular in hot weather. Around the Jebel are potters making simple unglazed pottery.

the entrance to the cave is luring us in ....with her legends and untold stories ...the local call it Jebel Qara ( hill ) and the cave Ghar Hashshab. But the Filipino community identifies it as JUDAS's cave. A search thru the Net has found no evidence of such claim, and also I couldnt find the history related to this cave. Well if anyone of you happens to know about this cave or any mention of this cave in history or Quran ..please email me !
