Madain Saleh

now, this is really amazing, Homes, real big homes built inside mountains, these were the homes of a prophet called Saleh, the story says that when the people of Saleh didn't belive in him as a prophet, God sent them a Loud Scare which left nothing but their homes.

Murabba Palace, Riyadh

by Canadienne

The Qasr al Murabba, or Murabba Palace, was built in 1936 for King Abdul Aziz ibn Saud, the founder of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. It was the tradition at the time that the King be accessible to all of his subjects, so the palace's reception hall was always full of visitors.

Tip Photo
Jeddah's Landmarks

by Canadienne

You could easily make a tour out of the city's landmark statues and sculptures. You can find everything from a giant-sized bicycle, to a fountain built of model sacks of flour, to fishermen's nets and date palms. . .all larger than life and very impressive.

Tip Photo
City Drives

by Canadienne

You need to have a very good sense of direction, as the layout of the city is hard to follow. Due to constant growth and changes, most addresses were given by landmarks, not by street names. Therefore, you might be visiting something "right 1 km after the metal compass". . .the statues and art running along the corniche made for excellent reference points. Still, driving around the city ~ minding where we pointed our camera ~ was a neat way to see what lay outside the compound walls.

Scuba Diving in the Red Sea

by Canadienne

The Red Sea reef runs along Jeddah and has some of the most beautiful and varied marine life in the world. It's heaven for divers and snorkelers. . .we used to dive a couple times a month and it was always a blast. Our family dives were usually just for viewing pleasure ~ my dad did most of his fishing with co-workers.

Fong-Mantus's Things to Do Tip

by Fong-Mantus

The Holy City of Makkah, also pronounced Mecca, was the birthplace of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, the place where God's message was first revealed to him and the city to which he returned after the migration to Madinah in 622 AD. Makkah is the holiest city on earth to Muslims. Five times each day, the world's one billion Muslims, wherever they may be, turn to the Holy City of Makkah to pray. At least once in their lives, all Muslims who are not prevented by personal circumstance perform the Hajj, the pilgrimage to Makkah. Each year the Holy City of Makkah is host to some 2 million hajjis (pilgrims) from all over the world. The Holy Mosque in Makkah houses the Ka'aba, in the corner of which is set the Black Stone which marks the starting point for the seven circumambulations of the Holy Mosque which every hajji must complete. The Stone is a part of a meteriote.
