Mari (Where History Began Before History) was an ancient city in Syria situated 11 kilometers north-west of the modern locality of Abu Kamal on the western bank of Euphrates river.
In the LP it said "the spectacular ruins" . So off I went. The bus from Deir Ez-Zur to Mari and along the way the bus broke down. I got to the bridge at Mari and was picked up by the friendly police....
