 | Damascus Transportation | Tips 31 - 36 of 36 | | Popular Transportation | Other Transportation Tips | All Tips (36) If you plan to rent a car in Syria, I only have one word for you: BUDGET! Budget is the only reliable car rental company in Damascus. All of the company's cars are very recent models and it has a computerised system which other companies lack. Hertz for example offers very old beaten up models and no computerised system. My suggestion is to rent a car from the Damascus airport, though Budget has an office on 29th of May Street (Sharieh 29 Ayyar) in the city. You can make a reservation online, but chances are prices are cheaper if you rented upon arrival (but risk not finding availability). Make sure you request unlimited kilometrage if you plan to travel around Syria.

Renting car in Syria is not so easy as in, say, Turkey. And prices tend to be higher than average. Hotel staff helped me to find one local agency with better conditions than one might get in Hertz Damascus. Company name - New Orient. Contact person - Adnan Khatib. Price - USD50 per day for KIA Morning (aka Picanto) with unlimited mileage and almost full insurance (read rental conditions carefully to see if they suit your needs). Plus USD1000 in the form of credit card slip as security which was eliminated upon return. Leave a Comment Theme: Car/Motor HomePhone: + 963 11 4413546

What can I say about taxis (and taxi drivers) in Damascus! There are thousand of yellow taxis in Damascus (a common joke among locals is that Damascus is inhabited by 4.500.000 people and 6.000.000 taxis), and most of them are old, dirty, they don’t have taximeter and the drivers are ready to rip you off. The good news is that you don’t need to use a taxi to see the city. Damascus is small enough and walking is the best way to see it. Still, if for any reason you use a taxi for a cross-town ride, you shouldn’t pay more than 30SP. Leave a Comment Theme: Other

The Damascus International Airport is located about 25km of the city center. If you arrive late at night, your only option is to take a taxi. It costs 10USD (about 500SP). You can also ask from your hotel to send a car for you, but in this case expect to pay at least 15USD. If you arrive between 6am-00:00, you can use the airport bus, which is far less expensive (about 30SP) and it takes you to Baramkeh bus station, (1.5km of Al-Merjeh). From this point you can go to Al-Merjeh using a microbus or a taxi. From Damascus airport there are several flights to Aleppo, Deir Ezzor, Lattakia and Qamishle. Leave a Comment Theme: Airplane

Damascus' yellow taxis are cheap and plentiful. A green light on the roof means they are available, while a red light means they are occupied. They all have a meter and usually remember to put it on at the start of your journey. If not, just remind them and they will readily oblige, unlike the taxi drivers in Marrakesh for example. Sometimes, if you arrive at one of the big bus stations, a tout will try to take you to a waiting taxi. In that case, the taxi driver will not be using his meter, which is illegal. To avoid this problem, just walk one or two hundred metres down the road from the bus station and flag a passing taxi down. Taxi journeys in the city will typically only cost you S£25 to S£50, which is great value. But, a lot of the drivers only speak Arabic and some of them smoke. Leave a Comment Theme: Other
