Be aware that haggling down the price of any thing you buy,The seller,vendor mostly raise the price because the vendor knows very well the buyer will try to haggle it down. It is part of the culture,cloth,taking a taxi,souveniurs,even the hotel price...etc from 20% to 40%.Do your best ;)
It can be difficult making yourself understood in a taxi sometimes ,due to wrong pronunciation and maybe some people can not read Latin letters.the driver of taxi,van or bus.may not understand about your desired place.
You can ask your hotel to provide you with written clear address in Arabic letters ask how the words are pronounced. If you show it to any person I am sure he will be more than happy yo help you.
Young people speak basic English so speak slowly and There is always some body can speak English.
So have all the address of you destination like sights and ruins in plain Arabic.
Since Kurdish are Neutral when it comes to Syrian Israeli Conflict of course,you can say you live in Israel,or that you are coming from Israel,or that you are Traveling Around Kurdish cities and villages
Be aware that you wont be allowed to enter Syria if you have Syria Israeli stamp on your passport.Also do not mention Israel while you are in Syria
