The Umayyad mosque is very nice and a must see while in Aleppo. It was undergoing some light restoration but that did not ruin the beauty of the mosque courtyard.
The floor of the courtyard is decorated by a checkerboard of black and white marble geometric patterns.
It hurts your eyes and feet under the strong sun light. Like me, do it at night!
The inside of the Umayyad Mosque is vast and sumptuous. There are fine precious carpets (some of them pretty old) on the ground and the atmosphere is definitely mystic.
Everything is very well kept.
The original minaret of the Umayyad Mosque is very finely decorated and well preserved. It is more than 20 m. high and it is a reference point for the whole old city.
