Latakia is one of the safest cities I have ever been to. You can walk around in the city after dark; you will meet friendly and helpful people only. No mugging or robbing at all!Pickpocketing might be the only potential danger, although we have only had very positive experiences everywhere.
Going to the souk is also a pleasurable experience compared to other Arabic countries I visited before. Vendors won't push you to buy anything if you don't want to. Certain places may overcharge you a bit, but this is not usual either ... however, considering their low prices and the fact that most items (on menus and in the shops) are written in Arabic, you wouldn't have to bother about it.
