There are two ways to explore the Baniyas nature reserve. You can stay close to the entrance or you can hike from one entrance to the other. The waterfall is not far from the western entrance and the Pan temple is right next to the eastern entrance. So, if you don't want to walk too much or you don't have enough time you can just do these two. But, if you have the possibility you should explore the entire hike. It's a nice and easy walk in the shade and you enjoy the coolness coming from the water.
Even before the eastern entrance you can see the remains of an acient city. This was the capital of King Herod's son, Philip the Tetrarch. Around the same time, St. Peter got the keys to heaven right there, as described in Matthew 16: 13-20.

Take your time on your approch to the waterfall and you will be rewarded with many a fantastic sight, here you can see one of the trees with a intricately knarled trunk.

But even here in the center of a beautiful nature preserve you can see the fight for life being carried on. This tree found a niche in a rock wall and proceeded to literally pry apart the wall to make a place for its life.

Near the stream you can find this drastically curved tree trunk, it looks like it was fighting for a place near the stream or sun, was blocked and then decided to "go around" and come in another way.
