Transportation

by dr.firas

Okie as always I should remind you my dear visitors from the Cab's Drivers!never get in since dealing about the price!especially that in Latakia prices are really exaggerated in the summer season! And about coming to Latakia Best transport is the train and the ticket from Aleppo will coast you 1$ in the first class!and about 3,5 hours to reach Latakia!

Taxi

by dr.firas

Its always yellow in SyriaBut with the little difference between the cities! For instant in Aleppo you'll see a red light over the Cab which means its Busy!Green light means its free!In Damascus they don't have such a cutie system! So you have to wait until a Cab will stop!

Cabs

by dr.firas

The Cabs in Damascus will take about maximum 2$ for a distance! They are masters in cheating! They could assure you that it's more! And that you can ask another driver!Well actually this is what happened with me and we asked another taxi driver and thanks god this one was honest and he answered that the price is about 1$ in spite of the swearing rude taxi driver where I've been who told me that the price is 2$So be very careful, it depend on the distance in Damascus but I assure you that more than 3$ could never be! 50 Syrian pound = 1$

bus-ing around syria

by call_me_rhia

Travelling around Syria by bus is very easy... there's plenty of buses going everywhere: microbuses, minibuses, regular buses, state-owned karnak buses, and luxury buses (muxury meaning they are regular modern buses). On luxury buses prices are about 2 dollars for a 3 hours trip - on other types of buses half or a third as much. For longer distances it's definitely better to go for a luxury one, especially since there will be room for you to store your luggage. You'll also be more comfortable.

damascus airport,30 kms from the city, there are cheap buses;the border with turkey is open, but sometimes, the customs try to steal you at the check-point between antakya and aleppo;try the border between gaziantep and aleppo;lebanese border is open, but in lebanon there is no syrian consulate, because lebanon is a syrian province according to the syrian government;so ask for a syrian visa before arriving in lebanon!!the border with jordan is open and you go through very quickly;the border with iraq has been closed because of a quarrel: the iraqi dictator says he is the saviour of the arab world, the syrian dictator says HE is the saviour of the arab world!the border is closed of course with israeltrains are extremely slow, you can travel by bus everywhere;there are fast buses:damascus-aleppo,damascus-amman,damascus-beirut,and lattakia-tripoli-beirut;I heard recently(dec 2001) that the border...

From Damascus to Amman

by MalenaN

There are a few busses going to Amman from Baramke station every day. As I didn't want to wake up to early (for the bus) it suited me better just to show up at the station when I was ready and take a servise taxi. They leave when they are full and probably you don't have to wait to long. I paid 500 SP.The time to reach Amman depends on how long it takes at the border. For me it was quick but we had to wait for one passenger in two hours. Don't know way it took so long for him.The service taxi stops at Abdali busstation in Amman.

I can imagine that an overland journey from Europe to Syria would be a rather thrilling way to get there (combining Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey, for instance!). I flew to Damascus with Austrian Airlines. As I was going on a guided trip through the country I used the same bus at any time. The distances are rather long between some places, especially in the desert!

Here are some destinations you can reach from Hama with the Al Ahlieh bus company:Hama --> Damas: 19 buses (1st at 05:00, last at 21:00) / Hama --> Aleppo: 16 buses (1st at 06:45, last at 22:15) / Hama --> Homs: 6 buses (1st at 05:30, last at 18:15) / Hama --> Lattakia: 3 buses (1st at 06:00, last at 18:15). The bus shown on the picture is not a bus of Al Ahlieh...

It is extremely easy to get around Syria.use Kadmous buses for intercity travelling. The most you will pay for a long-distance journey within the country is about 200 Syrian pounds (4 US dolars).Use the train to travel from Aleppo to Latakia. You can travel first class for less than 2 US dolars and the views are astonishing. But the greatest bargain ever is the intracity transportation. Microbuses are extremely cheap in Syria (a journey which covers pretty much a whole city the size of Damascus) won't cost you more than 10 Syrian Pounds (roughly, 20 American Cents!), even if you have to change buses once!

The cheapest way is to take a flight to ANTALYA (Turkey). Then by bus (via Anamur = very nice place to take a rest for a day or 2 = TIP 'Eser pansiyon' at ISKELE) to ANTAKYA.Here you take a bus to ALEPPO.
